The phone rang.  I answered... thrice.  Then, the caller hung up.  I tried calling back, but no dice.  It rings five or six times, and then I get a busy signal.  This is the third time it's happened from the same number.

Well I called that number. Some girl named Micha or however you spell it answered.
Apparently, its people calling to see if I was interested in getting information about college or something around that.
Another thing is that I was getting a phone call from this baby website stating that I signed up for free stuff and they asked me for information so I went along till they said they needed my social security for college information and I told them to pretty much f-off and that I dont give that information to anyone. So I hung up. Now Im getting these phone calls from companies and colleges saying that they got information that I wanted to sign up for college classes, and I didnt.

So if you got this number on your cell, homephone or whatever else. call the number back and tell them to put you on the "DO NOT CALL LIST". They will not be allowed to call you again.

Asked for my minor child by first name. When I asked who was calling, they replied "Angela". I asked, "Angela who? from where?" Silence. Told her I knew they were a scam, to quit calling, and that I was reporting this number to the FTC. We are already on the DO NOT CALL list so that confirms my suspicion that they are a scam.

I also have been getting these calls.  I don't answer and they don't leave a message.  I was glad to see that others were getting calls from this number.  If enough people complain then maybe they will lose their rites to this number.

I called the number back and got a guy who claims his name is "Chad" to answer the phone. He sounded high. Anyways..he claims that he's representing  a company called classes & careers and that he got my number from something I supposedly filled out online saying that I was interested in Financial Aid for colleges. It's an actual website, google it.

It sounds like he's got friends in the background that make noise just to make the situation more "realistic". He seems to get a bit nervous if you ask the right questions. I also let him know that his number is listed on this website for people not liking his calls very much.

    Update to previous post....

We figured out they got my child's info from popup window(s) on Target and/or Walmart's web site to win a gift certificate.

Since then, we have received a mailing from Men's Health magazine for a subscription.

Note we also received a similar suspicious call from (415) 738-7504.

These folks definitely do not sound like they are "professionals" from a call center but rather like individuals (and from who knows where).

I would caution others about giving them ANY information except to tell them "I do not give out information over the phone" and not to call anymore. If they persist, tell them you know they are scammers and that you are reporting the call to the FTC.

I recieved about 5 different calls from these 3 numbers regarding an online college application that I don't even remember applying for. I knew this was a scam when the caller didn't give me a company name or credentials. I also answered one time and the caller got annoyed when I didn't reply about giving him my information(geez..do they really think people are stupid to believe them!) These numbers continue to call me every morning around 6:00am and usually I just ignore them, but I'm beginning to get aggravated at their calls. My phone indicated that the call was placed somewhere in Utah (area code). Hopefully they get my drift and stop calling, especially when I told them not to call me anymore.
