This guy tries to scam me into thinking he was the father of a "girl" I had been texting from a dating site- said she was underage and that his wife wanted to press charges. He initially just wanted an apology but then tried to get me to pay for the "girl's" cell phone deactivation fee if $300 dollars, suggesting I wire the money from Walmart.

Exactly the same as me!

Initially a "detective" called me first saying the dad would be bringing in the cellphone as evidence, but I should call the father first to "apologize" and see if we could work it out first. They wanted $495 for deactivation of the girl's cellphone.

I was so worried for like an entire day b/c of this... But I did call one of the SC(Columbia) police dept and they basically told me this was definitely a scam and to not worry about it.

Seemed like a bot or scam so gave them a number close to mine, seems like it was the right idea... Poor sucker who gets the actual calls since it's actually a live number... Opps...
