Possible Scam. Sends text requesting Full Name and Address to send check and wants to wait until check clears the bank to have Pick up arrangements made afterward or possible make shipping arrangements of item they are inquiring about purchasing on craigs list. Seller BEWARE!

Even in the 21st Century it can take 6 - 8 weeks for a check to clear your bank. Usually the name of the Bank is good, but the transit numbers at the bottom are fake. Kijiji and Craigslist are not eBay. It's social media selling - in person - cash & carry. This scam is an oldie. The idea is your check will be higher than the selling price. They'll want you to forward money to their 'shipper'. By Western Union, or some other cash wire transfer service. We all know how this story ends, don't we?

I think a common misconception is that since some of the money is available right away and all of it usually the next day, that the check has cleared the drawer’s bank.  In most cases the check will clear in a day or two, but in other cases it may take longer such as in out of state checks.  Also if the numbers are not correct the system will not be able to read them and this will result in a delay in processing the check.

I received a text in response to a craigslist item for sale.   I assume that this is a scam number?

Yep, it's a scammer!!!

Had a listing on craigslist.  Insisted on paying money order and cashiers check.  I said no.  He still pushed.  I informed him that I will report his phone number.  Now his information is all over the net.  Do not bother me or anyone again.  Freaking scammers, what a waste of time.

this is a scammer from CL - I have him send the cashiers checks to a fraud detective at the police station. he or his partner  are located in NY but use a VA phone number.

Sent a text message wanting my name and address to send a check.  Then, followed with he would make check for more so I could pay the movers.  The whole thing felt suspicious so I asked questions and they never replied to my questions.  It was a response to Craig's List.  He then asked me to remove my item from Craig's List so he could confirm the sale.

Caller responded to Cragslist ad, is asking for my full name and address to send a cashier's check.  Says once the check clears the movers will come and pick up the items.  Caller lives 5 hours away from me.  None of this makes sense, didn't follow through with the information.

Yes, got the same craigslist response.  don't fall for.

Just got the same scam this week.  I didn't give my information thanks God for this website. It was the same number.

I just had the same attempt 1 hour ago.  I should have pushed for more info to see if he goes by a different name than others have reported.  Thank goodness for 800notes.com.  Does this idiot ever give up?

Thanks for sharing your posts as it, once again,  helped avoid someone else getting scammed.  Posted an ad on Craigslist and received a text regarding the items and they would send a check to pay.   Said it would only take 2 days to clear, etc.  I offered to have them pay via PayPal but they said No.  Used the name Susan Goldberg.  Disgusting people!

Yup just put an ad not even 12 hrs ago and asked for our names and address to send a check. Luckily I Google the number and this site came. I appreciate this site so much thank you!

Still using this number - name of James Foster this time.  But same, tired scam - tries to push you into wiring money...a big giveaway that it's a scam!
