John - 14 Nov 2007Called on November 13, 2007 after 8:30pm. Guy was Ruuuuude, like they always are - seems like its always the same guy with an attitude/chip on his shoulder. Miserable human being.
The story is the same, the guy wants an amount named before he will send me literature. I say no way and he scoffs at me like I am being unreasonable. How is it unreasonable to want to know more about the organization (if it is legitimate) and how much money goes to help the actual police officers and their families?

Delores - 29 Nov 2007Just got a call from this number and when I answered, no one spoke. I've read that this happens when they are using an auto dialer and another person answers first, causing them to be unable to answer (hope I explained that well.)

C.M. - 11 Dec 2007Ah, crud. Once, years ago, I actually answered & said I'd contribute - we've got a great police force, then I looked it up & found out they keep most of the money. Should be illegal!!! Thanks to you all for the info. Maybe the just started up w/ calling us again because people are more in "the giving spirit" around Christmas? In which case they're double scum!!!

JW - 16 Dec 2007I get at least two calls a month from these guys and don't answer. I figured them out a long time ago when I lived in Florida. A friend of mine clued me in on the scam so I don't bother to talk to them. The one time I did answer the phone the guy tried to intimidate me by telling me my local police keep a list of those who refuse to donate and won't help you in an emergency. What a crock. I wish we could get nationwide legislation to stop all telephone solicitors.

Duncan noted that there is no evidence that law enforcement agencies in Montgomery County benefit from the funds raised from the group and urged the State of Maryland to open an investigation into this matter and step up its enforcement of these shady operations. Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) uncovered the scam and is conducting its own investigation......

They gave me a line that only 2.5% went to administrative expenses.
When I checked them out on the web http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=8335
he was telling me the truth about the 2.5% Administrative costs but failed to mention the 69.1% Fundraising Expenses.
When I asked him to mail me some information about the organization, he hung up on me.
As someone above mentioned, if they have no interest in getting my credit card information, how did they expect to get my money, if when I asked him to mail me something, he hung up?
The thing is people, answer the call. Make them stay on the line for as long as you can. The longer you have them there, the fewer people they can call, the more they have to pay for long distance charges, and the less money they can make. If they can figure out that your going to give the a rough time, they'll hang up on you, and move on to the next person. If you keep asking them questions and have them give you answers, they'll think they've got a "live" one on the line and try to milk you.
JUST DON'T GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. THEY DON'T REALLY KNOW WHO YOU ARE OTHERWISE

Tsunami - 21 Jan 2008Received a call form 804-225-9092 at 5:44 p.m.; sounded like it was coming from a car cell phone with a radio running in the background. The connection was very poor and there was static on the line. I thought at first it was my husband celling from a cell phone en route home in the car-- but it wasn't. I said ehllow teice, and the caller hung up. I think I have reproted this outfit before. I did not know who the caller was until I Googled the number. Comcast/ Verizon *69 gave the the number, but no identification of the caller, and my regular caller ID at present is not
working.

LL - 23 Jan 2008Ditto with most of these complaints. Guy says Police Protection Fund yet caller id says Graphics Lab. Just told him we donated to the local county police dept. and he persisted. He wasn't rude but neither was I when I told him sir we're not interested but thanks for the call and then I hung up.

jimbo - 15 Feb 2008Received a call from this number on 02/14/08, the caller asked for a name that she mumbled. I am not listed in the phone directory, I have a fake name listed but it was no where near the name that was mumbled. The caller then said that she wanted to talk with me and said she was with the police protection fund and started with a sales pitch to donate money.
I told her that I have been in law enforcement for 35 years and that all of these solicitations were bogus scams and that the police get nothing from any donations. I also said that my number is on the "do not call registry" and she immediately hung up. I have reported it to the do not call registry but I do not beleive that they ever do anything with reports.

irish 1 - 14 Apr 2008My father was a police officer for many years before he was killed, I also worked at the courthouse and still know several police officers and detectives. I get called from this "charity" from time to time and was just called last week.
They said they would send out their brochure along with the donation form if I would donate $25, $50, $75 or more. They put me down for $25 even though I have no intention of sending them anything, I wanted this info so I could turn it over to my cousin who is a Fraud Investigator with the FBI. I'm not sure if anything can be done legally to shut this company down because it seems as if they are walking a fine line between legal and illegal activity. If nothing else, it will put them on alert that we are not as stupid as they think we are.
I also hope that every one reports this "charity" to the IRS whom I'm sure would also investigate this company to make sure they are in accordance with a tax exempt charity. They might even like to go over their books and just see where all the money is going to.
Everyone should also contact their local Better Business Bureau (BBB) and report this company.

Orginally, they were calling from a phone number in Georgia, and claiming to be the "Virginia State Police"..lol Today, they called from this number in the 804 area code (Virginia). Again claiming to be Virginia State Police. On caller ID it had the number and listed it as "Graphics Lab". I answered and laughed at the man. Asked him who he was trying to kid, as they had been exposed a long time ago.
