This number is being used by a Texas-based "boiler room" scam outfit calling itself the Police Protective Fund. Search on-line and you'll find plenty of websites designed to make them look legit to donors who are checking them out. ALL those sites are designed by the the "fund" itself... and those who've been PAID to say nice stuff about them. They are a BARELY legal charity that pays nearly 70 % on donations directly to themselves... or should I say "HIMself"... cause it's just one guy. HE gets most of the money in the form of salary.
The rest of the money pretty much goes to the low-life, piece-of-sh*t SCUM they hire in local cities to place their fund-raising calls! (In the case of Richmond, VA, that's a morally and ethically challenged company called "Graphics Lab".
By the way... this "Fund" raises money on the corpses of dead police officers.
Wanna' know what your local COPS think about that? Call and ask them.
08/07/2007 This number show up on my caller I.D. at 1:40.
Their donation pitch I believe is like the one in Montgomery County, who is looking for donation for the police protection agency. Charles County Sheriff Department has not any listing of this agency.
804-225-9092 appeared on caller ID, but i didn't answer, as it seemed strange & definitely no one i knew; that's why i got online to find out about the number; next time they call, do what i'm going to do: let call ring at least twice, pick up receiver, then hang up, wait 30 seconds, then pick up receiver, listen for dial tone & dial *57 to trace; your phone company can turn the traced calls over to local law enforcement for harassment
I have received 2 calls from the 804 number that Caller ID names as "The Pol Protect" today. We did not answer. No message left. We are on the Do Not call registry but that doesn't seem to have stopped most of the callers we used to get. I still get about 5-10 per day of telemarketers.
OK..look.. I have been searching the net all day, and have been finding things about the PPF...some things wrong, and some correct. I worked for this organization, and can tell you, that most of you are correct with your findings. The PPF IS headquartered out of CA, and has 6-7 offices throughout the USA. They have offices in the following states(that I know of) Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, California, multiple in Florida, and Texas. Every single office calls ANOTHER state. They never call their state. I do not who the person was that called themselves "responder" who posted on July, 25th, BUT...whatever you do..DO NOT listen to them! I am sure they are a telemarketer from the PPF, or even management from the PPF, but I don't give two sh*ts...they're full of it totally. I know from first hand experience, so they can try to post here and pull the wool over everyones eyes, but now I am here to contradict what they said, and to tell you, they are full of it. They have come up on peoples caller IDs as different companies...such as a graphics place, and a place called Rays...which was fixed last month when a manager of a FL office called the phone company to fix it I was told by ANOTHER employee of the PPF when the manager was said to be bragging about his "power" with a phone. The different names showing up had been a glitch with the phone company, but in any case...they are still a scam! They tell people that they are 5013c verified, but that doesn't mean jack s**t. They ask for donations to help the families of police officers that were killed in the line of duty, so the fallen police officers families can receive a $10,000.00 check when they die..and it is free of charge for the officers, but the problem is....they don't fork the money out unless the officer DIES. Maryland for example...has 569 officers currently enrolled...and to date they have had one officer die in MD....so they gave money to a VA police officers family who died to save their a**es. When they call and someone asks for literature, the employees are told to tell them that they can't do that cause it would cost too much money to send out to everyone who asks for literature. There are employees, (of whom I sat next to a few) who tell the people "yes" when they're asked if they are police officers. THEY ARE NOT. They are everyday people like us. One of the managers sits and listens to employees hanging up on people, impersonating an officer with their voices, and yelling at people on the phone...yet NOTHING is done unless THAT managers manager gets a call...otherwise...they get away with it. There are also employees who say they are volunteers...which they are NOT, and they get away with it. The PPF is not only horrible to the people for trying to scam them, but let me tell you...they are even more horrible to their employees!!!!!! THIS ORGANIZATION NEEDS SHUT DOWN!!!! I haven't come out with my name YET because people who work in Florida, have no work rights....you sign a piece of paper at every employer that states "at-will" work rights...in other words...you work for someone for 3 years...they don't like your hair color, and they can fire you...but that isn't how it works in other states, and they hired the wrong person to screw over. I don't know what my legalities are, but TRUST me...I am working on it. I have a medical condition, and was VERY honest about it when hired, and when I went to a doctors appointment and found out the outcome of my medical condition, and reported it to my manager....miraculously three days later, I was fired...for low numbers....which is what your job consists of. Numbers, and thats it. These f***ing people bring in $10,000.00 a DAY, PER OFFICE, from innocent people who THINK they are helping the fallen police officers families, when in fact, all they are doing is helping the CEO, Phil LeConte, bring home his $191,000.00 "compensation" for the year, other employees in management their Cadillacs, vacations, and new fish for the huge fish tanks they have in the offices. All they care about is your bringing in $600 a day worth of donations, or you're fired. I even went to the manager and ASKED for help....which his reply..I'll listen to you....and that was the end of the help until I was fired..not by him, but by another employee who is supposed to be his assistant who brings in $200 for the day sometimes, and still has his job..go figure. Now I have thousands of dollars in bill, and not even unemployment, because you have to work for 30 days to get unemployment, and miraculously I was employed for.......29.5 F***ING days....Gee, think that was a coincidence?? I highly doubt that. I am hoping that putting my story out there will, at the very least, stop people from naively giving money to people over the phone. TRUST ME when I tell you....if they're calling you....SOMEWHERE theres a scam involved...DON'T DONATE EVER OVER THE PHONE!!!
I seen a few more questions from people that I would like to answer. Do they call cell phones? YES They are also EXEMPT from the National Do Not Call registry...any charity is exempt from the organization. You need to be on the internal do not call list. thx

Caller did not leave a voice mail. I find it more than suspicious behavior for a reportedly reputable charity to falsely indentify themselves via caller ID.
We've received two calls within the last month, Oct-Nov '07, from 804-225-9092. I don't answer because I don't want the hassle of trying to get off the telephone.
In the past, we've asked to be removed from their list, but they keep calling.
Called on November 13, 2007 after 8:30pm. Guy was Ruuuuude, like they always are - seems like its always the same guy with an attitude/chip on his shoulder. Miserable human being.
The story is the same, the guy wants an amount named before he will send me literature. I say no way and he scoffs at me like I am being unreasonable. How is it unreasonable to want to know more about the organization (if it is legitimate) and how much money goes to help the actual police officers and their families?
Just got a call from this number and when I answered, no one spoke. I've read that this happens when they are using an auto dialer and another person answers first, causing them to be unable to answer (hope I explained that well.)
Ah, crud. Once, years ago, I actually answered & said I'd contribute - we've got a great police force, then I looked it up & found out they keep most of the money. Should be illegal!!! Thanks to you all for the info. Maybe the just started up w/ calling us again because people are more in "the giving spirit" around Christmas? In which case they're double scum!!!
I get at least two calls a month from these guys and don't answer. I figured them out a long time ago when I lived in Florida. A friend of mine clued me in on the scam so I don't bother to talk to them. The one time I did answer the phone the guy tried to intimidate me by telling me my local police keep a list of those who refuse to donate and won't help you in an emergency. What a crock. I wish we could get nationwide legislation to stop all telephone solicitors.
Just a little note: ....Duncan Warns of Police Charity Scam; Out-of-State Group Using "Mail Drop" in Montgomery County; Calls for Stepped Up Enforcement by State
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan today warned consumers about an out-of-state police charity scam operating in Montgomery County that spends the vast majority of the money it collects to pay the salaries of its staff and its fundraising expenses. Duncan noted that there is no evidence that law enforcement agencies in Montgomery County benefit from the funds raised from the group and urged the State of Maryland to open an investigation into this matter and step up its enforcement of these shady operations. Montgomery County’s Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) uncovered the scam and is conducting its own investigation......
