- DonSame call is coming every day.
- PissedI returned the call to a telephone number left by the automated attendant. The message threatened court action (same as seen elsewhere in this post) if I did not return the call. I called back using a different telephone number. The agent that answered claimed to be an IRS agent with badge number 521783. It was obvious he was in a call center and had a strong accent. He refused to give a name and said he required my name or phone number to proceed. I told him I'd be calling my local IRS office to confirm his badge # and he hung up. I called back again, but received a automatic disconnect - as though they'd blocked calls from the second phone number I used to call them.
- Caller: IRS

- SandraMy husband just received a call from this number stating this was his last chance to settle his IRS deb or sheriff dept would be at our home in 30 minutes. I called back from another number and call was answered by "IRS agent". Obviously a call center type system. And when has anyone ever called the IRS and not been thrown into an automated system, press 1, press 2, etc. And then out on hold for 30 minutes?!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
. - BASKETCalled my home #, knew it was a scam-called from a totally different number. Did not speak to person on other end, but definitely speaks with heavy accent.
- Caller: GOVERNMENT
- WinterchickI had a voicemail message from this number yesterday saying if I didn't call back it would be considered my 2nd failure to respond and I needed to call back about my appearance before a magistrate judge or Grand Jury. I was to call back to speak with a court at tourney to get my case number. I was in a panick as I do have something going on that may require me to go to court and I initially thought it had something to do with that. I'm very glad to read all of these posts saying its a scam. I did try to call that number this morning and neither my cell service or my land line provider allowed the call to go through. Further confirmation that this is a scam.
