I had a voice mail message from Monique at this phone number saying she was calling from Bank of America for me or my husband, that this was not a sales call, but we should call back at our earliest convenience to 800-688-7783.  This is NOT a Bank of America phone number and will be reported to Bank of America's fraud division.

I had a voice mail from Amy at this number saying to call Bank of America back and that this was not a sales call. When i did try to return the call it would not go thru to a person because i didnt have the extension instead it hung up twice. I think this is a scam and will report to Bank of America immediately!

this call came from a rep with BOA but left no extension so when i returned the call it hung up instead of going to an account representative.

Same as everyone else, claimed they were BofA, but gave information or extension.  Googling the number pulls up some laywer's page:

    https://plus.google.com/116956467327646142222/posts

"Marks and Harrison, Eric D. Yost

I don't think that's a real number or lawyer either though.  Definitely very scammy.

"Good afternoon. This message is for <my name>. My name is Laura. And I'm calling from Bank of America to discuss upcoming changes to one of your accounts. This is not a sales call. So we would like for you to contact us at your earliest convenience. The number here is 1 (800) 638-7783. Any associate can assist, and additionally our office is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 10:30 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Thanks and Have a great day."

They knew my name and phone number (as they appear on my B of A account) but they did not identify which account or even which *type* of account this was in reference to. I called Bank of America using the number on my credit card. They could only check on my credit card accounts, but found nothing relevant.

Google sent me to this page, but it doesn't contain the phone number in question:

    New England Call
I received a call from 804-887-1200 and they left no message. I looked online to see if was a scam or spam and saw these posts. I called Bank of America hotline 800-432-1000 and asked if this was one of their numbers, as I have checking and an equity line of credit with BOA. The representative said they had no record of that number (as other post mentioned), and fwd it to their fraud division for further investigation. I offered to do a conference call with a BOA rep, but they felt it would not help, but to fwd any info to them via email if I called myself.
So I called, it asked for an extension (which I didn't have), so I waited on the line. Spoke with Spencer, from BOA Home Loans, Existing Customer Credit Divison. He asked info to verify my ID, but I didn't give my SS# or Acct#, but was able to with address and phone# on file. He was reluctant, but did confirm he was calling from Richmond, VA and expressed if I was uncomfortable with the call, I could stop at any of the BOA Banking Centers also. He wanted to discuss my equity line ending in aprox 1 year and options. Not so good customer service in my opinion, but that's my end, hope was helpful.

There is a very good chance it was not Bank of America, especially based on the other posts in this thread. Just because they say they are BofA doesn't prove they are. And if you call back a number they provide you with, you really have no idea who you're calling.

The only safe thing to do is find a legitimate BofA number and call that. I say this because I have gotten these calls both from BofA and Wells Fargo, wanting to discuss changes to my accounts.

I don't have any accounts with either of these banks. SCAM.

I received a phonecall from 804-887-1200 but I didn't answer because I don't recognize the number. I checked this number online and a lot of comments saying that this is a scam number.

Incoming phone numbers can be faked; as far as I know it's legal to do so, unless you are impersonating a business or another person, which could be fraud.

However, in my case, I believe that this was a legitimate call from Bank of America, Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) division. They called the number that I listed as my primary number on that account (I have many phone numbers). In a voicemail they used my name as it appears on my account. They specifically mentioned "upcoming changes" to my HELOC, which I already knew would be transitioning in a few months to a repayment period.

I called them back and waited on the line for a rep. I pointed out that this number is reported as a scam number on a few websites. The rep told me to go to any Bank of America branch, and that I could verify the HELOC operations center in Virginia and the legitimacy of individuals who work there. I could also get assistance with loan options at the branch, if needed.

Hopefully Bank of America and other companies will work with telcos to find a way to identify themselves securely. They can't continue to expect people to answer calls from random numbers, and to trust anyone who claims to be legit. They go to great lengths to identify us when we are calling about our accounts, why shouldn't we get the same kind of assurances from them?

I answered and they knew about my HELOC and that it would change over to pay out but they also wanted account information over the phone which I refused to give them. They said it was for security purposes. When I asked why she was calling me since it's over  a year before the account changes, she started that "I cannot give out any information over the phone" line. It's a scam call, notwithstanding the comment  from "I dunno" on September 3.

Received a message from Christine at Bank of America earlier today. It was not a sales call, just a reminder of upcoming changes in my account. Which is strange because 1) I don't have an account with BoA, and 2) Caller asked for Sherry somebody. I did call back and explain that this individual must have had this number before me and had it changed some time ago without notifying the bank. This sort of mistaken identity is not unusual, since I've dealt with this before on more than one occasion, only with different companies.

The moral of this story is if you decide to change your number, please take a few moments to update your information promptly with everyone you do business with on a regular basis. The worst thing for any company to deal with besides wasted money is wasted time. Thank you.

This is Bank of America - what they wanted to discuss was legit. A loan is coming off an arm and the interest rate is going to change - Their call back number is 800-358-4148 M-F 8-9 Eastern time.

asked me to call back 8003584148 and then reviewed with me my BOA line of credit that is converting from interest only to an ammortized 15 year loan beginning next month.  I took it as a warning/notice that my min. payment was about to increase by over $400/mth

I just refinanced my house to rid of this HELOC, (& it was HELL)  so I can get away from BofA & it was coming due in a month..   but still did not answer the call, as I do not trust BofA for anything.. luckily they left no message.   They have my email, they can send written correspondence.

Got a call from this number and I answered the call.  Why?  I wasn't thinking clearly at that moment I suppose.  Anyway, I answered the phone and a woman asked to speak to me, by name.  I asked her what she wanted.  She said she was calling from Bank of America and needed to talk to me about an account.  I asked what the problem was.  She asked for my full name,  and complete address.  I told her by her calling me, she should already have that information.  Then she asked for my SS #.  I said no.  She asked again for my full address.  I said no.  She kept saying that she could give me no information until I verified who I was by giving her the information that she asked for.  I told her that I had no idea who she was and that I felt leary of giving her any of my information.  She got a bit huffy with me and said she was calling from B of A and that it was in my best interest to give her my information.  I told her that I would check with my bank about the call and she hung up.  I did go into my bank and asked about the call.  They had no idea and said the number is no one that they are familiar with.

Call went unanswered, I looked the number up like I do any other number I don't recognize. 800notes pays off as usual.

Like other people reporting, I have a HELOC with BoA.  It is scheduled to begin principal repayment next Spring.  I have received several letters to the effect. I don't know what they're all hot and bothered about, trying to talk to me. I don't care about the change; I'll pay the bills when they come.

I suspect this is a legitimate call. But the possibility exists that they got a hold of a list of customers that happened to have an expiring HELOC.

They sent the letters; surely they have a number on them. (I threw mine away already.)  Just ignore this call and call them back on the number they sent out.  If it's real, they will finally get to speak with you.  If it's not, then maybe that will be a short conversation.

For me, I don't care!! I don't want to talk to you. Stop harassing me!!  Send me the bills just like you have been for the last 15 years. I'll pay them in the same manner.
