Received (badly) recorded message from this number in California. Man's voice with Indian accent, stated that he was sending me a "second notice" from the state magistrate's office and that I was under indictment. If I chose to ignore this message that they would proceed with my indictment. I was instructed to call them back at this number to acknowledge the complaint and resolve the situation. Oh, by the way, did I mention that I live in Georgia--have never lived in California and that I don't even have a speeding ticket to my name. The message was sloppy, the guy stumbled his way through an (obviously) badly rehearsed script with grammatical errors.

Someone called from this number claiming I owe $6000 in taxes I owed since 2013 for years 2009 and 2010 to IRS.  When we ask if we could make payments, we were told they need the full amount.  They informed me that 45 minutes after they hang up from me all my bank accounts will be frozen and a warn for my arrest will be issued.

There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Got the same call, a recorded message from "Steve Martin" with an Indian accent. I thought it was b.s. and it's good to have it confirmed by other posters here.

Got the same call from person with Indian accent saying second notice from state magistrate's office and I am under indictment. Said it was on behalf of U S Surgery. I also live in Georgia!

I got a call from this number, too.  The man had a very heavy accent that I could barely understand.  Said I had a warrant for my arrest for back taxes.  I told him I didn't owe back taxes and that he wasn't calling from the IRS.  They always contact people through the mail.  He hung up on me.

Same call here.  Man left message saying he was 'Steve Martin' indian accent. stated second attempt and failure to respond would be our indictment.  Back taxes I think.  Mentioned magistrate like others above.  Thanks for everyone contributing here as well.

My 86 y.o Mom got one of these calls today.  "This is Steve Martin from US Treasury.  You must call back or it is refusal to acknowledge grand jury indictment."  Or some similar bullsh*t.  Thing is, my mom (elderly, Alzheimer's, in debt to a few places) could easily have fallen for this if she had answered the phone.  I wish someone would go after these sub-human pieces of escrement.  They are no better than thugs who rob a 7-11; the only difference is they get more money and they don't have the risk of getting caught.

ditto as others have reported.  total scam regarding a debt and hearing before a magistrate.  left message 2x because my answering machine cut him off on the first message -

Received same scam call.  Caller stated name as Steve Martin.

I received a message from Steve Martin also, said I was in some deep [***] with the US Treasury Dept. this was their 2nd attempt to contact me and I needed to call back immediately -  do not ignore this call, so they I could help them, help me on this urgent matter - Sounded like he was reading a script and was doing a terrible job

Received a message from Steve Martin, claiming he represented the US Treasury and that I was subject to a grand jury magistrate or something to that extent, and that I needed to call him immediately. Same deal about 2nd attempt to call me and a threat that action would be taken if I did not contact them. I actually tried to call the number back but it was unavailable.

robocall woman voice saying I had 4 serious indictments associated with my name and I needed to call back in 24 hours or would handed over to the local authorities. I received the same message the day earlier from 858-352-9321. I have no criminal record

Received a recorded message with a woman's voice stating that I would be under custody of local police as there were 4 serious allegations pressed on my name at this moment.  I was to call back immediately before legal action was taken against me.

Recorded message stating serious allegations against me and I’m going to be taken into custody.

Received call  message of importance from irs.  hung up

Just received a voice mail saying that I needed to contact them or else I will be taken in by the local authorities.  Glad I looked on here to confirm that it was a scam.

 Call was from California and stated that there were serious allegations pending against me. Scam

Telling me I need to contact them (did not say who) because my case will expire in 24 hrs and they "will call the cops" - who even says that??
