I got a call just now from the same number and people. The guy told me that it was a matter involving my wife, and when I said he'd have to speak to her, he told me that if I was a man, I'd handle this situation for her. Then after hanging up on him, he called me back and said he could call here every day and say whatever he wanted and it wouldnt be harassment. What kind of a law firm acts like 2 year olds when questioned?

Received a call from this number saying that there is a class action lawsuit against HSBC that involves me.  They go on to say that the payout is less that what they charge for their services.  Hmmmm...I'm not the best in math but why would I want their services if their fee outweighs the benefits?

Not to mention the fact that I have not done business with HSBC.

Received a message on my voice mail today (8-23-07)from "Phillip and Burns".  He asked for my mother!!!  I, out of courtesy, called him back to say he had the wrong number.  He proceeded to ask me for my mother's personal information.  I denied him that info and he said "You must not love your mother"!!  Can you believe that?  I called back numerous times to try and get someone above his head to complain about the way he treated me.  Two times, the people answering the phones transferred me right to him!!  He then proceeded to ball me out each time and hang up on me like a 4 year old. Finally, I called and he answered the phone himself and stated that he would bring me up on charges of harrassment!  I couldn't believe it!  This is most definitely a dirty filthy scam.  Not a real company and we intend on turning them in for the horrible way I was treated.  I'm now so glad I decided NOT to give him my loved ones' information.  Oh and by the way, we did a reverse lookup on the caller ID number and it came up as a RESIDENTIAL number in Tampa, FL.  What an idiot!!

Phillips and Burns are NOT a law office.  They don't even have a legal department.  They're merely debt collectors trying to collect on mostly old debts, many of them statute-barred.  They buy up debts for pennies on the dollar, then inflate them several times over and try to collect through harassment and intimidation.  According to various credit and consumer web sites, they have no documentation to validate their claims, and have richly earned a reputation for being disreputable, unethical, and sleazy.  General consensus is that you should NEVER give them bank or credit card information over the phone.

Check out Bud Hibbs' website, which says of P&B, among other things, "Another ‘Buffalo Style’ debt collector with all the common lies, threats and extortion you expect from the Debt Collection Capital of the World; BUFFALO, NEW YORK!  Owners, Spoor, Kazmark and Welch are out buying up old, mostly worthless debts, then calling consumers with threats of immediate lawsuit, garnishment and seizure in their illegal attempts to collect at highly inflated numbers. We were NOT surprised when a search of state records showed NO licensing or bonding as required by law. The name they use is typical of how many debt collectors want you to think they are a law office, when they are not. Expect their collectors to lie and state they are attorneys, which is a felony in most states. These are the lowest of the low-lives, the losers who can’t find work anywhere else. Their job is to lie, cheat and extort your money under the guise of fear."

We live in NJ so I didn't think it applied to us.  Still curious, I called this morning and couldn't get anyone on the line.

Got a call from the same people, asking for my wife's ex husband, I was naturally on guard, and said that I didn't know this person, he then ask for my wife and he knew her name "not hard since our number isn't unlisted" anyway after I told him that I didn't know who he was talking about, he hung up. Well now tonight he calls again and speaks to my wife asking the same questions. Can't anyone put a stop to this? Anyway it was about 1 month between calls.

They're sleazy debt collectors replies to Ripcord
Stay away from these guys.  They're bottom-feeding debt collectors harassing neighbors and relatives when they can't find the debtor - and even when they find the right person, the debt is often out-of-statute and they have no validating proof.  They buy up antique debts for pennies on the dollar and are neither lawyers nor are they reputable.  They're just bad news and you'd be better off ignoring or blocking their calls.  For more, go to www.budhibbs.com.

This man harassed me and called me a thief and a liar and told me he would have my home auctioned  off and throw my A --  out and get in my bank account and he said he had my Social Security Number.  He called me bad names and got me so upset I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack.  I am still suffering from the horrible things he accused me of.  Don,t call these people back if they leave you a message.  They hurt your feelings and laugh at you and accuse you of fraud, when they are the ones doing unlawful things.  He even told me he hopes I die and that he hates me.  He called himself a lawyer and he is nothing but a criminal.  Uses your credit and steals your identy and opens credit card accounts using your social security number.  Don,t talk to Chuck or Eric Burns as they called them selves.   Scam you out of your good name and credit!  Phillip & Burns Collection Agency  sucks!  They are a scam!  They are going to get what they deserve.  They will go before a judge and be punished for this terrible crime .  I will help prosecute the low life edits!  He threatened me saying he would file a Civil Law Suite Aganist me!  He called my home and had me so upset that  I was sick all the evening and night & next day.

You have been contacted by Phillips & Burns, lowlife debt collectors and comedy act.  NOT lawyers, NOT reputable, NOT ethical.  They buy up old debts that the original creditors have given up on - because the debts are so old they're no longer collectible and even if they were, P&B has no proof of debt and knows they'd be laughed out of court.  They're not even licensed to collect in most states and they generally employ the desperate and otherwise unemployable which accounts for the unprofessionalism of their collectors and the incompetence of their collection efforts.  For more information on these clowns, go to www.budhibbs.com.  They also call from the following numbers: (800)840-9166, (877)743-9600, (716)555-9625, (716)891-5800, (716)923-4143.  Look up any of those numbers on this site and you'll find lots more details, none of it complementary and most of it nauseating, on the Phillips & Burns Travelling Circus and Con Game.

I have been recieving calls from this company for many months.  Monday they decided to call my place of employment.  When they stated who they were I notified them that it is against company policy to recieve personal calls during work hours and I would call them back when I can speak with them and I promptly hung up.  She called me back moments later asking for my HR department.  I gave her the number and asked her to stop calling me.  Well then I started getting a fax line trying to call my work phone number (I yahooed the phone number that displaid on the caller ID) and it was the same company!  They tried to get a fax machine 4 times on 3 different numbers.  She then called me back threating to talk to my boss, whom she knew by name!! Like he cares!  I told her to do what she felt necessary and hung up on her again.  I called my HR department and spoke with them and my boss regarding them harrassing me and they are not going to take their calls!  I was so furious with her.  She was acting like a child tattiling on a sibling.

Their actions are potentially a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Pracitices Act.  There are penalties for this type of behavior used to collect a debt.  You may wish to consult a lawyer who specializes in consumer rights for a consultation.

The FDCPA is a federal law which strictly regulates the efforts a company may go through to collect on a debt.  The most stringent rules are enforced only against a third-party debt collector, which this company is.  These are serious violations, you should seriously consider filing a lawsuit.

Called me looking for my half brother. Told me he was in trouble, and had a certain amount of time to respond to the "allegations" against him. Wouldn't give me any details because I wasn't his lawyer. Gave me a case number, and a phone number for him to call back with an extension number. I politely told them I would try and pass the message along but that I hadn't spoken with him in years, and asked her not to call this number ever again. She responded that she would add that to his case information, but could not guarantee because he listed it as his contact information (which didn't make any sense to me).

I looked them up online, and realized who they were. I called the woman back, and told her that she was a filthy debt collector and to never call me again. She told me that she was a processor for a law office, and not a debt collector and that I should get my facts straight. She then said that she would call me back everyday, and that I should track him down. I told her to track him down herself, and if she called back, I would take action against her.
