Don't owe any one money.- Caller: Debt collector
- Call type: Debt collector
- JulieCaller said they were the county dispatch office and I was being sued for a civil case about a debt I owed. They gave me a phone number and a case number to call and get information. When I called the number back it says the phone has been disconnected. Come to find out this was Lincoln Group trying to collect a debt that was 8 years old. I had asked them to stop calling and now they were having me call them!! They claimed to be suing me but there is no record of the civil suit in the county court. They wanted my credit card information, I am going to the DA tomorrow.

- Nicole| 1 replyCalled 03/09/15 at 10:02 a.m. I didn't answer, (I never answer if the call isn't a current contact) and they left no message.
- LCSecond time they have called me asking for a person that i do not but is not related to me. Telling me that said person hada civil sit against them told me bc i didn't relay the message that now i was going to get processed too. I told then it's none of my business and that i know it's a scam call. She copped an attitude with me and called me a [***]. I hung up on her.
- SmilingYoung lady asked for Gerardo..
I told her she was way of on that one.. She thanked me grudgingly and hung up. Called the number and it cut right off after a ring.. What a job...- Caller: never mentioned
- Gary Joe replies to NicoleI believe you are doing the right thing when you don't answer calls that are not a current contact. I answer some calls at times when no one responds. They just hang up with nothing said. That is so weird! I am going to start taking more precaution. This time some one calls stating I am being sued in some Tarrant county civil court for something which I am not aware of. I called the number they gave me and it is not in working order. I called the original number back and to no surprise, I get no answer. Someone just recently used my bank routing numbers to make transactions with Dish Network for over $300.00! When I conferred with my bank, they gave me a name associated with the transactions and I looked it up on Facebook and it turns out that the culprit lives right across the parking lot in the same apartment complex. How dumb can a criminal be? I like your idea and I will be doing the same from now on. Thanks and be careful out there!
- TexasLynnThis number calls at least 2-3 times every day. They call during the day when I'm not home so I've never answered...just keep getting missed calls. You would think after months with no answer, they would stop calling. I have no outstanding debts so they definitely have the wrong number.
- Caller: Isn't listed on caller ID
- JimThis is a 2 part call. First they call you and tell you they are with county services and need to coordinate some papers to be delivered, when pressing they tell you its a civil matter and imply that you are being sued. They give you a "case number" and an 800 number to call. When you call the 800 number they answer the phone "Law Office". The "legal processor" gets on the phone and tells you that there is collection against you and tries to sound very "legalish" tells you who the company is and wants you to call them and confirm. The "legal Processor" will not tell you who "their" client is. SO after you jump through these hoops and call back he basically tells you to pay up or you will be sued. In my case it was a bill from a previous marriage that was not mine but my ex wife's.
When the "legal processor" tells me the age of the account in my case 7 years old I told him to go ahead and sue me, the statute of limitations in the state of Texas is 4 years on a bad debt, and I will file for immediate dismissal. He then informed me that I had signed a "tolling agreement" when the service contract was signed extending it to 7 years. This statement is a lie. I actually have a law firm on retainer and I called them. My attorney informed me that a tolling agreement can not be signed at the onset of a good or service and can not supersede state law of 4 years. THIS IS A TRICK TO SCARE YOU. I called them back and informed them to stop calling me and forward all correspondence to my attorney. I also go their address so my lawyer could send them a letter to stop all contact via phone which anyone can do themselves.
To get sued in Texas, several things have to happen, first they have to send you a certified letter attempting to make contact, a phone call is not binding. Second they have to file suit in the COUNTY you LIVE in. Once suit is filed a constable will show up at your home or work and serve you papers (they do not call and arrange a time as the fake phone call above indicates)
Once you are served papers you must answer the court and give a response to the case, then a trial date is set.
Don't let these idiots fool you. A side note on statute of limitations...If you have made any payments of any kind the statute is extended. The statute is only enforceable IF no activity is on the account for 4 years.- Caller: THey dont tell you
