Called Yesterday with no further information than - you must call us...

a collection agency, I just got a letter from them regarding buy.com (i made one purchase 4 yrs ago from them). not sure what other accounts they collect for (or their name, the letter came to an old address and my mom told me it about it).

I just received a letter from them, too.  Apparently for a past dur BUY.COM bill of $53.39.  I haven't bought from BUY>COM for 2 years, and then it was with a credit card that was verified before shipment.

Crane & Weiner are a large collection agency, but the claims are false.  My CC info was stolen last month, my acct closed and another CC issued.  I'll bet this has something to do with this.

They are now going by the name of Caine & Weiner.  Just received a letter from them for an amount of 49.99.  Not sure where that amount came from.  Always pay for everything right away, so positive there is no debt.  What to do next.  Put a freeze on my credit and cancel all my cards.

No, don't cancel all of you cards.

First, look at the letter from them.  In the upper right (as I remember), they'll have an account name or number.  Mine was something like 1002buy.com.abch.  Anyway, it told me that buy.com was the party that hired them.  I looked through my past invoices from buy.com, found a paid one for the exact amount, sent it to them certified, return receipt and haven't heard another word about it.

Secondly, they MUST advise you of who hired them to collect, for what item and in what way wasn't it paid for.

I would write them with those questions, send it certified/return receipt and see what happens.

I'll be you never hear from them again.

They call once an hour on my cell. when I press "answer" there is no sound. I have finally figured out how to block them. If this was legitimate they would leave a message.

I got called from them a lady left message claim I had a collection balance for my ebay account and which she couldn't tell me my ebay user name and more information what I told her she need to give me more information before I pay for any unpaid balance if there areany...  she start upset and told me she will cancel my ebay account and which this is only for $126.21 and I call Ebay back ask for the detail my account is in good standard and no balance was send to collection. Give the phone number and on my caller ID show call was made from 818-347-2700. Ebay will follow up what is really going on. Every one becareful per Ebay few people already paid to them since it is a very small amont everyone should make sure before pay.

they are telling me its for a college i went to for 1 term. I dont owe them any money it was taking care of by student loans. I even called the student loan center says they show it paid over a yr ago. The lady is very rude.

bill collectors can't leave messages in most states

They called and let it ring five times, then hung up.  I have no voice answering system on my cell and I don't answer any 800 series callers.  My number is not public and is never divulged so whoever is calling cannot know who I am.

False debt collector. Already settled my account almost 2 years ago. Now being hounded for more than what was owed.

Called today and hung up as soon as I answered. I called back hours later to find out that it's a collection. I do not want them calling me.
