Got a call from this number today at my job.  They asked for the owner or controller and said it was part of an investigation...?????  I said, "There's no one here right now" as in there is no owner or "controller" here.  He basically mocked me and said, "Well...YOU'RE someone, aren't you???" and laughed to himself at his attempt at a joke, but the way he said it was rude and condescending and he was obviously making fun of the way I worded it.  He then asked if I was the bookkeeper.  I told him the bookkeeper is only here once or twice a week (which is true) and he laughed and said, "HA!  Must be nice.  Ok I'll try back." and just HUNG UP ON ME without letting me respond or take a message.  If he had let me respond, it wouldn't have been pretty.  My boss NEVER answers the phone and there is no chance they are ever going to get to talk to him so they can forget it. If they call back, they can expect an unpleasant surprise, as I will not forget the way he acted and I did not appreciate it whatsoever.

I received a call very similar to yours.  When I told him that the owner wasn't available he hung up on me.  Thing is, the idiot who called obviously didn't realize that he had reached a very large company and you don't [***] the gatekeeper - me!  When I asked him what type of investigation he tried to tell me it was regarding a "past due account investigation".  That's what our accounts payable department is for, you don't ask for the owner or controller for that type of situation.  I could hear the boiler room noises in the background.

Same formatt... harassing and belligerent.   Then calls back and yells at my Assistant.

if you call it back it a fax number: faz them and tell them to stop calling turning them in for harassing and fraud

Yes, it is fax number.  Boiler Room. Not nice, would not answer my assistant as to why he was calling.
I am getting extremely tired of telemarketing calls. You think the No-Call list would work.

Received a call my receptionist transfered to me.  They did not leave a message and had asked my receptionist for me by name.  They called once with an unknown name that had a telephone then called back two seconds later with a unknown name and number.  The person left me a 49 second voicemail and didn't say anything but you can hear the "boiler room" in the background.  How can you stop these crooks from calling?

Received same call. Man claimed his name was Roy Payton and it was regarding a commercial investigation. Asked for our owner and I gave him our manager who he then hung up on. Apologized and said he thought he had our headquarters.
