a person called me from this telephone number and said that he was an officer Eric Foster from the IRS and that I should contact him on the hotline which was this number. or I could have my attorney contact him but if I did not respond then he wish me the best of luck as the situation unfolded on me. I have called this number now 15 times. lol he answered the first two times and said his name was Paul from the IRS and then hung up shortly after I told him my name and that I received a message from him. after the first two times he no longer answered and the phone disconnected almost immediately after calling the number. I've heard of scams like this before, but this guy is definitely amateur at best. the heavy accent and the fact that the IRS doesn't answer their phones by stating, "IRS, this is Paul" should be a big red flag to anyone. If the IRS really wants to contact you, they will do so in writing first. They DO NOT call you and leave a short message.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.  Ignore and block the calls.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

A lot of these Indian and Pakistani scammers tend to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.  They are basically looking for vulnerable people.  Never return their calls.  Ignore and block them.  This is a total scam.  If you talk to them they may sense a vulnerability of some sort or another and just hammer you with even more calls.  Many of the scammers already have a lot of personal and financial information about the people they call, owing largely to security breaks in data-heavy industries, as well as other sources.

    Ignore and block.

A gentlman named Paul Turner Badge #19162 called my wife telling her that she was under investigation of tax fraud.  When my wife challenged him on this, he became agitated and told her that he wanted to speak to her lawyer.

Received a call from a man with a heavy accent.  Said he was Officer Eric Foster, with the number to his hotline division (818-533-9746).  Suggested I call him back, saying if he doesn't hear from me or my attorney, all he can do is "wish me good luck as the situation unfolds on you" and signed off saying "Good-bye and take care." Going to report this to my local police department, as well as Verizon.

I got a call just a few moments ago from this number. The man, with a heavy accent, left a voicemail. He identified himself as office Eric Foster and said that I had better call them back or get myself an attorney and he wishes me luck if I don't get back to them because I'm in huge trouble. I googled the number first to make sure it was a scam before calling them out. The man who answered said he was an officer as well ( didn't catch the name as he also had an accent) and said he was calling from the IRS, I said that's funny, because I don't owe anything and I heard the IRS only contacts via the US postal service. He said "ok, sorry to bother you then" and hung up on me. I have the day off, so I plan on spending part of it calling them repetitively. A little counter harrassment, if you will.
