I got a voice message from a person name  Steve Jones -The caller has a heavy Indian  accent and states he is from William Hopkins Law Office in Los Angeles-  asking for my lawyer information and billing address so subpeonas could be sent to me as I have a lawsuit being filed against me in Council Bluffs And that I needed to be in court the following week telling me that they is a criminal case on me in Ca. that I had to go to court on Tuesday at 11:30am if not they would call the police on me. This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO company or debt and you will NOT
be arrested.

I got a call from this number,the caller stated he was Stephen Jones,from William Hopkins law office,asking for my billing address and lawyer information saying  something about a law suit against me  and something about our police department  something about me paying a penalty of 5000 and something about 30 days.i couldn't understand  half of what he was saying ,he had a foreign accent.

I got a message from Steven Jones and when I called back the person was Richard Jones and said his paralegal was Steven Jones. He stated the last for of my SS#, but I wouldn't confirm. The message said that I had a lawsuit against me and it gave the Michael Davis Law firm out of California. He also said that the court case was on next Tuesday at 11:30am and that he needed my lawyers information. I asked him twice what the case was about and he wouldn't say, so I hung up. I told him I would wait on the subpoena....This scam if awful and worrying honest, hardworking people. They should be ashamed!!!!

I received calls from this number the matter 4 days, saying to different law firms the cler was a Steven Jones with a Indian accent. The caller stated he need my billing address & my lawyer's information cause therir has been papers filed against me & that I need to go to the police to get a copy of the papers filed.

Got a call from this number.  He said his name was Steven Johnson from Michael Davis law offices in California.   Said that he need my later information because a criminal case was being filled against me.   I called them back and he said he would read the summons to me.  When he started to read it. I asked a question and he told me to not speak while he was done reading it.  he said that the case was because of a payday load I got using my email address.    When I questioned him about the summons and asked to have it faxed o me. He got mad and said I can do that.   Then he told me that I can just go to court and deal with it there.   I called my local police department and asked them about it and they said it was a scam. To be very careful with people like tHis.   I also checked the clerk of court record to make sure there was nothing there.  Hope some one will put an end to this.

All of that wrote up above has been happening to me and flooded my voicemails for the past few weeks now!I may have to call my phone company and take it from there!!!Bec. I do not take this threat lightly

I received a message from Stephen Jones stating that he was from Michael Davis Law Firm in California he also stated there was a criminal case and charges will be filed against me if I did not show up to court on Tuesday at 11:30a in California. He also stated that I owe 5000 dollars I told him when I called back that I had no knowledge of this information and he said the emails were sent to my email address and he needed to speak with me in person and for me to hire a lawyer. if not I will be subpoenaed and they would send an officer out to my job as well as my residence.

Same as referenced above Michael Davis law office and criminal offense will be made against me and they needed my attorneys info. Was for a payday loan that was never paid. I have never had a payday loan. Same phone number and it was going to criminal court of Los Angeles Ca nxt Monday by 1130for non payment. The man had a foreign accent most likely Indian. His name was Stephen Jones. I was very adamant with him about not ever having a loan like that and he said he would send me a subpoena and documents to me I said yea ok then hung up, but I listened to mssg again on my phone and he said Martin Davis law firm???

Short answers--
1. It is illegal to claim to be can attorney.
2. Owing money is civil-not criminal.
3. You are not warned if a summons is coming.

The scammer is in India or Pakistan---nothing to fear!!

I am also getting phone calls from this same number. The voice message is purported to be Steven Jones calling from the Michael Davis Law Office.  Same message asking for lawyer information and billing address so subpeonas could be sent to me.  If there is a criminal lawsuit against anyone they should already have an information that they need to subpeona anyone. And if I am right I do believe subpeonas are not mailed but served.  Do not fall for this scam.

This is (one of many) criminal extortion scams that have been going on for years. Many are operating overseas and out of the reach of US law enforcement, while others are operating within the confines of prison cells here in the US, using contraband cell phones. Others are using VOIP. Either way, they are able to disguise their identities and locations, making them next to impossible to prosecute. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting victims' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

I just got the same voicemail today and I called back and the same Indian guy yelled and told me I need to call another number I ask him for what I don't have any criminal I said hell no and hung up

Yeah I got the same call with the same fake name. Every time these idiots call I block the number, and report it to the FCC, and to the FTC. Someone needs to stop these people!

I just had the same phone call. He told me he was from Michael Davis Law Office in California. His name was Steven Jones and that he was a lawyer from Mr. Davis' s office and wanted my address and my lawyers info to send me a subpoena in a criminal law suit. First of all, I know that if you owe money it's a civil suit not criminal! Plus, he wouldn't give me any info on the case. I ask him give me his lawyer's number or address or a manager.  He said he didn't have it. I told him I'll wait for the subpoena!  He was rude and demanded that I pay $5,000 in court cost and fees. I told him I will go to my local police department to verify and he hung the phone up on me. I tried to call him back and he wouldn't answer. Then he called me back under a "unavailable number"!

I just got a phone call from this guy.  Told me that they had a case against me and I needed to contact his senior lawyer to give him my information.  I told him I didn't know what he was talking about and he said that he would inform the local police to arrest me. I don't owe any one any money. According to all these post, I see that this is a hoax.  It is still scaring me tho.

I just received the same call!  What the heck i live in San Diego and never go to LA so I'm confused

Just received same call from Steven Jones with same "Law Firm".  Has now left 3 messages and is calling my work number.  Stated I needed to pay $400.00, via money gram to  the attention of Scott Lee Fisher in Florida.  So, I am to believe that I owe money to Cash Advance America and that I pay a Mr. Fisher directly.  Unreal!   Now stating I will be taken to court in L.A..  Again, the frustration is this is allowed to happen and all I can do is block their number, then they just use a different one.

I just received one too regarding a Cash Advance. I was kind of worried because I did apply to several different lenders to try to get a loan(My credit isn't all that great) BUT never finalized with any company. I was worried because they had personal information from me. When I went to get more details on WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and WHY am I barley being notified and NOT in collections. The rep wasn't able to give me full information. That's when I began my own research. This is highly annoying and scary too! These 3rd party vendors need to get a life!
