- MattIt's "Harris Direct", a telefundraising company. They call on behalf of nonprofits, attempting to get you to donate to the charity that has hired them. If you've given money to a charity that uses them, that's why you got the call. I donate to a few, so I'm not sure who it was they called me on behalf of.
- Caller: Harris Direct
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- PBCalled my cell phone, didn't leave a message. Irritating because It's supposed to be illegal to telemarket to cell phones.
- DisgustedCalls then dead air, hangs up. Caller ID gives number and MSF USA
- Caller: MSF USA ?
- RobinMSF is Doctors without Borders. They keep calling me too, at really bull times. 10pm??! WTF, and don't even say anything when I answer.
- AmyThe number calls once per day but never leaves a message. The callerID just reports the number as being located in Northern Los Angeles area.
- DavidHas called one to three times a day for the last 18 days. I have not answered any of the calls. My voicemail records two seconds of silence each time.
- Brian| 1 replyThese evil [***] have called me once or twice every day for the past month. I am completely sick of it! I'm pretty sure it is Doctors Without Borders who sold my number to them. NEVER EVER contribute to Doctors Without Borders! This is their thanks.
- MatthewI think it is MSF/Doctors Without Borders, a very worthwhile nonprofit doing incredible medical work in the worst situations in the world. I contribute, but as this seems to be Harris Direct, who get a % of the money, always give directly on their website or by mail so they get all the money. Harris is also quite aggressive--they'll call you over and over and over.

- John| 1 replyI can only echo what has been said many times before on this comment chain about 818-715-0142. I've been called every day, more than once, and I never pick up the phone because I don't know who is calling, and I'm not interested in receiving any cold calls, period. Once my answering phone message concludes, I hear the couple of seconds of silence, then a disconnect. I'm in New York City, and yes, I contributed to the MSF with respect to the Haitian Quake Relief initiative. Thanks to this site, and to your posts, I realize that mine is a "shared experience," and that one organization in particular seems to be a common thread.
I will copy the URL address above and forward it MSF so that they are aware of what folks are experiencing and that it does them no credit whatsoever to be using this tactic to fundraise.
It would really make an impact if all of us did the same. Here is MSF's email address page: http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/contact/- Caller: 818-715-0142
- JOHN replies to JohnIt turns out that MSF's email address is donations@newyork.msf.org.
Please use this address instead of the one I just posted above. - JohnHere's what I just emailed to MSF
Dear MSF,
It appears that a certain practice is being used to solicit phone donations that it causing annoyance and resentment. See a full account of what I mean at:

- Bob MullerThey called my house twice today. Did not leave a message on the answering machine. I have given to Doctors Without Borders in the past, so that sounds about right. I don't give to any fundraising companies (and very few nonprofits), as most of the money goes to the professional fundraiser. I had a customer of mine who did that for a living and she said her company kept 80% of the donation amount.

- Saratogafan replies to BrianMédecins Sans Frontières "MSF " is" Doctors Without Borders so there's no sale of the number involved.
They just called us and left no message.
We've donated in the past and will so again when we elect to do so. However, we have never responded to a phone solicitation and make it known to anyone who calls that they've only postponed any potential contribution with their call. - Joyce\This msfusa 81817150142 has called and called. I am not interested, never have been
and FTC should prohibit this nuisance and annoyance. - frank gWhy does everyone ignore the do no call list

- MDI'm so sick of these calls. I've now been getting them everyday, twice per day for the past 3 weeks. I've answered a couple times and it's Harris Direct. I tell them I'm not interested and, big surprise, they call yet again.
- Caller: Harris Direct on behalf of Doctors without Borders/MSF

- TDWolseyTwo calls today. I contacted MSF/Doctors Without Borders via email with this message:
Dear Doctors without Borders,
While I believe your organization does worthwhile work, and I contribute when I can, I do not appreciate telemarketer-type calls from Harris Direct or similar companies on your behalf. Indeed, if I were inclined to make a donation, I would put off doing as a result of being contacted via telephone. In any case, I never give money as a result of phone solicitations. Please do not pass on my telephone number to third parties and do not call me to solicit donations. I believe the calls such as the two I received today from 818-715-0412 (Caller ID: MSF USA) do more to discredit the otherwise good work your organization does than to help it.- Caller: MSF USA
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Ellen| 1 replyGot 2 calls today. If it's MSW, I did contribute in the past and get regular mail solicitations but this really makes me never want to give to them again!!!!!
- Caller: Doctors Without Borders
- Ellen replies to EllenThat should be MSF.
- Enough! This number calls me at least twice per day. I'm assuming it is a telemarker soliciting for Doctors W/O Borders, as I have given to this Group in the past. I will never make a donation to this Group again.
