- JohnKept getting repeated recorded messages from this number. The message appeared to be claiming I have some claim against me and instructed me to call them back. The message did not have my name. Just another scam but they kept calling.
- dennis potocznyClaimed they were US Treasury and wanted money.
- Call type: Debt collector
- karlRepeated calls claiming to be from the treasury department and there is a lien against me. I am a CPA specializing in taxation. I knew the phone call is bogus. Not sure where to report this scam.
- Vicki| 7 repliesvague message, thick accent, used the term "magistrate"...didn't think we had those in the US. Needless to say, I will not give them a callback...
- Caller: "US Treasury"

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - Violet replies to Tamianth| 5 repliesI have received 2 calls from a man saying his name is Steve and that I had better call him back. He picked the wrong sucker to pull it on here. I can't give him money, due to the fact I already have an agreement with the IRS. We have all become GREAT friends in the past year (tongue in cheek). They don't call and give you warnings. You find it when you go to the bank and find the REAL IRS has already taken your money.
In this day and time, this fool picked the wrong scam. The joke is on him :) His phone won't accept my calls now and I can't find anything out, BUT I bet when I call all my good buddies at the IRS on Monday and give them his number. Bet he is gonna be in trouble. You don't pretend to be IRS if you aren't interested in meeting with one of them face to face. They don't like people messing with their theft. Better yet they don't share :) - Captain James Tiberius KirkThat would be an interesting meeting to be in on. Criminals vs. criminals. I wonder who would bring the biggest gun.
- Captain James Tiberius Kirk replies to Violet| 3 repliesIf this number is legit, then it points to a really nice house in California. I wonder how many people they've scammed in order to afford this mansion.

Tracking back a phone number doesn't mean you found them. They use spoofed numbers to begin with. Most of these calls are actually coming from India and some from Pakistan. Our extortion scammers tend to lean more to Debt Collection Extortion scams. Sadly, when tracking back numbers, some people think its fun to call the number and harass them, which should be discouraged since it creates just one more victim of the scammers.

https://800notes.com/forum/ta-9f0ce767d8019be/a-different-spoofing-victim - Know your scammer replies to Tamianth| 1 replyIt seems to be very difficult to get people to understand that caller ID is a dinosaur. It is so easily faked. Just do a search on faking caller ID. It's just SO simple. Do not call back numbers you do not know until you check them out & NEVER give out personal information on a call you did not make. Always verify the number FIRST.
- Tamianth replies to Know your scammerCall spoofing.. I believe I covered that in my post above. Your preaching to the choir!
- DNI got a similar call on my answering machine 11/7/14. The call quality was horrible (very choppy), and the caller had an Indian accent. We were not addressed by name, and were told we could be subject to a "magistrate judge or grand jury for a federal criminal offense" if we did not call them back at 818-745-2031, related to a US Treasury issue. Very strange scam. If that is their real number, it seems they could be found. If it's not their real number, how could they profit from us returning their call? We don't have caller ID, so I don't know what number they were calling from or spoofing.
- DanielYep same Steve Maren (with a funny Indian or Hispanic accent) called 3 times already saying he is from the Treasury Department. Glad to confirm its just a scam.
- Caller: treasury department
- Call type: Debt collector
- SbSteve Martin called me!!! Same as everyone else. Several same messages. Two separate numbers though. Called them both and laid into them about how they could sleep at night taking innocent peoples money... They admitted yeah I figured out their scam and they sleep at night because of all the money they have from this! They are the scum of the earth. I pray people don't fall for this!! The same people called me a few months back claiming they were irs and now us treasury. They are still out there. So sad. Number now not working. They spend a day hoping people call back and use magic jack. They are reprehensible. I've notified the police and us treasury.
- Danny IT| 1 replyMany times the call back number is bogus. In this case it was a magic Jack number - key word "was". :)
Caller ID can be spoofed, but the phone company can trace the call back through logging. If it's a routed IP address with VOIP services (Magic Jack), they can trace the IP back to the "owner" with the ip lease at the time of the call and go knock on their door...
Criminals tend to be pretty stupid and often careless. Unfortunately, a lot of honest people can gullible and often careless.
One day, someone will track those boneheads down and god help them! - Danny IT replies to Danny ITOh, yeah,
He called me too and I have been working with (not for) DHS for about 4 years, so I am well versed in B.S.
Looks like they killed his/her/their account... - CWG40 replies to VioletThey are located in India or Pakistan. Good luck trying to find them. They are beyond the reach of US law in any event.
