They left an automated voice message saying they were from the IRS and that we were being sued by the IRS . When I called the number back the man kept telling me I was being sued, he never asked for my name. When I told him the IRS sends letters he told me not to call that number again.

Received a message from 832-251-7353 saying we were being sued.  Our log shows this number as a Houston number but they say they are in DC.  They do not answer with their name and ID number as all IRS employees do when they call you.  You also hear other callers in the background.  That does not happen when you deal with the IRS.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Received two calls this morning sayIng they were the IRS and I was being sued. Read the recent posts so I knew what it was. For the heck of it called from my cell phone. The ring tones were of different lengths didn't sound right. Finally got an answer. A male individual with an accent asked what he could help me with. I replied the IRS comment and he asked for my phone number to get my record-I replied that "I don't think so that this is a scam and I didn't appreciate it!" He wished me a "good day" and hung up!
Glad to know this scam information before thanks!!

Yawn. They called once. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. There has been no call-back. NOTE: In my Sunday School class, there are two ladies who work for the IRS. If this were something serious, they would have informed the class immediately.

The representative claimed to be an IRS agent. I asked him for his federal ID number - and he told me "25041". I told him that was an invalid number and that he was committing fraud as he was not the IRS. He then told me "F**K YOU" and "don't attempt to call us". I told him I was gong to report him - and he hung up.

Filed a complaint and will block...

Our home phone had a recorded message today from 832-251-7353. The message said to call the "IRS" at this number. The IRS was issuing a final notice and we were being sued. They did not identify whom they were trying to reach. We receive forwarded mail for deceased parents, so I was concerned it may be regarding one of them. I called the number and a man answered with a simple "Hello". I asked what company I had reached and he hung up. Clearly a scam. Thanks for letting me report the call!

Footnote: At the point of sounding redundant, nevertheless, I will say it again: Senior citizens are most at risk to being "plucked" by these kinds of predators. They will pick up a phone call without checking the caller ID (do hope that they have caller ID) to see if the name and/or number are from someone they recognize. They may still pick up the call anyway! Senior citizens of my acquaintance usually become angry at such calls; it would be better if they did not pick them up at all.

Yes, I got a call from a similar ditzy number this morning: "We have been trying to reach..." I cussed and hung up. The robo-caller voice sounded just like our dear old friend Amanda!

    I hate scammers
I received a call from this number. Didn't answer it as I am at work, and I don't want my co-workers to hear the words I'm capable of saying.
One thing I do when I answer is say "(Insert city here) Police Department, agent (whatever) speaking."

They usually hang up before I finish the sentence.
