Caller ID displayed "Cell Phone TX". They left a voicemail (which was a recording, not a live person) from the IRS Internal Revenue Service claiming this is final notice they are filing a lawsuit against me and to call 832-293-7724 to learn more about the case file. Complete BS!!! Wa

automated call from IRS stated call serves as Final notice , IRS is filing a lawsuit against me.  No identifying file case or to whom the call it's addressed to. simply to call the number for more information.

Just received the same automated call from the IRS. call at 7:45 a.m. It was a recording. Came from a cell phone! I blocked my number and called and the phone just rung and rung. Lots of switching over sounds.  Granted...I called before 8:00 a.m.
Update: Called after 8:00 a.m., when most Governmental Offices are open! This time rung and rung, with no switching over sounds and then went to a busy signal.

I called the number back....they asked for my home phone number and told me the IRS was going to have me arrested! I laughed and ended the call BTW could barely understand the person due to strong Indian accent. Definitely a scam...we have no tax issues and I know for a fact the IRS would send certified mail!

My wife received this call just a little while ago. First it was an automated message like others have reported. My wife went ahead and called the number, because it freaked her out a little bit. A guy with a heavy accent (not sure what accent) answered the phone and said he was an IRS agent, gave a badge number and a case number and proceeded to tell her that sometime between 2008 and 2013 she had frauded the government and needed to pay $3800. They asked her if she wanted to pay all of it, or set up a payment plan, and that if she didn't do something now, that they were going to issue a warrant and have the local authorities arrest her in 45 minutes. After my wife finally asked to be transferred to a manager. The manager, another guy with a heavy accent, basically told her the same thing and hung up on her after she said she was going to talk to me and talk to an attorney. All in all a classic example of a scam.

I received the same automated call via voicemail at 0836 this morning (16Nov).  I assumed it was a scam but googled the number and found this site.  I'm glad to see that people are helping to warn each other of this scam.  Some poor, unsuspecting, individual can really be taken advantage of if they don't know any better!

It is an IRS scam call. I called back just to screw with them. The guy I spoke to was Chinese. We had a nice conversation about writing off nunchuka lessons before he hung up on me, lol.

    Same "IRS filing lawsuit."
Robotic female voice, the same one they use for making amateur cartoon characters talk.  http://www.oddcast.com/home/demos/tts/tts_example.php .  Just type script to hide accents etc.

I contacted the local consumer advocate that writes a column in our paper and they said that "The IRS DNOT make collection calls at all.  The IRS initially sends out certified letters to the offender and does not threaten anyone over the phone with arrest or anything else.  The advocate also said that this is a new form of scamming that has surfaced and to be very careful as they can disguise their caller ID and number to anything they want.  The IRS has a lot more important things to do than hassle people over the phone.  I never realized it before, but my phone has a toggle switch on the back that when used tells the caller that "it cannot receive messages at this time" and then hangs up on them.  Great tool!!!  I get to see who is calling without all the hassle of unwanted callers

This is a giant scam that will likely work against older people who don't know any better.  Please report them to the IRS and treasury department.  https://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing

If you do, it helps everyone.  Record the call and keep them on the phone as long as possible so they can't do their job.  Cry, plead, tell them the most ridiculous things you can think of.
