    I have a ph call from this number a guy named Brian Mercer claiming to be a Private Investigator for a bad check from 2008. The check was from a good account. However I did closed the account without checking if the check has clear the bank. He even said if I don't pay they will come and arrest me. I want to make an agreement but he were pretty naughty. The money should be send to Vantage Point Services. Also a "lawyer"named Kayla Patterson very disrespectful she even said I don't care what happened to you

    I got the same call. It sounds very fishy because I actually took care of it and only owed bounce check fees and they didnt even want to give me a chance to look at my records or contact ezcorp which is the company they claim i owe.. They said their name is Morgan Law group but it was the same people who called Sandra... hmm

    I thinks its just a scam. I know I dont owe the debt.. The only thing i owed was 30 because the first time it went through the funds were not in the account but then I paid off the payday loan. They didnt even want to give me a chance to investigate and find out why this company was reporting that I owe this money. They said if I didnt take care of it today they would report it so that I would get a warrant for my arrest for writing a bad check. The funny thing is that I never wrote a check out to this company. It was a voided check just so they could verify my account. I dont think they can file charges against me for a fraudulent check if I never actually signed it. They are just trying to get more money out of me than what I know I owe. I am the stupid one for not taking care of that 30 fee but that is still no reason to be threatened by some one like this..

    I got a call from this guy too!  He said he was with HAROLD LAW FIRM out of Jacksonville, FL.  Area code is in texas though.  He threatened to arrest me too...  he called my family members too.
    I asked for his address, and after five minutes on hold, he responded with 2120 Corporate Sq suite 28 in Jacksonville.  When I filed a complaint with the BBB  in Jacksonville, the address registered to a TLG company that has nothing to do with a law firm or collections.
    I called him back from work a week later and hung up when he answered.  He called back (just like I thought he would) and when I answered he said he was with MORGAN LAW FIRM...
    File a complaint with the BBB.. his practices are completely illegal

    I received the same call from Brian stating that I was about to have a felony charge on my record for a bad check. I've never written a bad check.  He stated they were with Morgan Law Group and that I should have received a letter from them.  After, he put me on hold to speak with Shelby, the attorney and I  hung up. She later called saying they would send an I-12 and notify my job. Not a clue what they are talking about.

    What a nuisance!
    Brian Mercer (probably not his real name) called with threats of warrants for the arrest of one of my family members.  Didn't ask me if I knew where this family member lived and how to get in touch with her.  Wouldn't have told him even if he had asked. Thinking I was a fool, he tried to play on my emotions in an attempt to get me to believe and pay for a $700+ FALSE "check fraud" charge from 2009 made by my family member.  The accusation was absolutely fabricated.  Making the call sound very "legal" can be scarey and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to such tactics.  I caution anyone to not answer any of Brian's questions and do not give him any information at all.  If even one or two people a day feel compelled to "pay up" because he has scared or intimidated them, then Brian and Morgan Law Group has had a good payday.  All purely a scam.  Be careful.  Tell him NOTHING to protect the accused and yourself!

    These individuals called me and said that they were going to have me arrested for check fraud with Chase Bank. At first I was getting really scared but then I thought 2008 I did have an account with Chase but I did not close that account until Jan 2011, so I could not understand why would these people call me about "$500" isn't this harassment? How is this legal I cannot just call someones house and threaten them with the cops especially without anything in writing. Oh yeah when I asked them for something in writing they told me I will get that once I am prosecuted. I also looked them up on the on the BBB expecting to see a lot of complaints but I only found the "Harold Law Firm" from Florida and when they called me they told me they were the Morgan Law group from Texas. Help What can I do to get these stalkers shut down?

    I received the same call, First from Brian and everytime he would call he would leave a message. In one of the messages he said he was with Harold Law Firm. When i called back I asked him what company hewas with and he responded with miss I already told you. I told him I forgot so then he said Morgan Law Firm. I asked for their address and he started asking what are you going to send here so i told him since he was part of a law firm he should understand I wanted to research them. He put me on hold cam back and said.are you ready to write our address down? Are you ready? Here it is. He then hung up. I called back and spoke to Shelby she claimed a week ago she would call me back and never did so I called her back told her what happened and she apolgized. She claimed she would email me information on this and she would send it through the postal mail as well not to count on it through the postal mail it would take 7-10 days. I never received the email. I figured they were fake if you work for a law firm your not going to tell someone "your going to be TOOKEN to federal prison, i would hate to see them take your children" when i told Shelby about brian saying that she said well if you could see him you would understand why he talks that way!
    They are seriously a joke! I hope someone can stop them from harrassing people!

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    i had gotten a call from a Donna Anderson supposidly from MORGAN LAW GROUP (houston, tx). telling me that if i did not send them $250 dollars in the next couple hours for a loan i took out in 2008,  there would then be a Kapias* warrant for my arrest and they would also press Mischevious intent to defraud a company( check fraud) on me for closing the account of the check that was never written(only used to prove i had an account) .im not denying the debt but i have been trying to get ahold of who bought my debt and pay it off...hence the fact i was freaking out and still kind of am... I had my mom talk to her to see if it was legit enough to send her some money and my mom told her she knew they were a scam and was calling the BBB. She then emailed my mom a letter saying what the charges were if i didnt pay up and a SHELBY WILLIAMS' number at the bottom. Whom ive seen all over the net as being a scam. The letter had a address but no suite number...i then called the building that their address was..and the Building attendent had no idea what i was talking about. I also called the FTC and they told me NO debt is punishable by jail time and reported it. But they did know some very specifics about my life. They said they had been trying to mail me somethings for a while now...well ive lived in the same house for almost a year and ALL my mail comes to me! so obviously they have not been trying hard enough.

    i spoke to a lawyer. no one can go to jail for a payday loan. its a non negotiable item. at the time you give them the check, they know the check isnt good. its not like giving walmart a check for merchandise. furthermore if its a debt.... by law they have to send you a bill. then if this was a 3rd party collector, they dont have the right to file charges. they wouldve purchased the debt. report them to the attorney general and cut this crap out.
