Hung up when I answered

Gee ... 842 is an unassigned area code ... and how many numbers begin with 0 after the area code?  Seems like an obvious bot ...

I answered the phone and a gentleman with a Middle Eastern/Indian accent advised me that this was an "emergency" call related to the Windows operating system on my computer and he needed to assist me. I advised him quite sternly that I did not place a call for technical assistance. He continued to talk over me while I tried to explain that I did not place a call for assistance. I had to hang up on him. This clearly is a SCAM.

Same kind of thing.  This number called, hung up on the machine, and left no message.  CID was "Unavailable."  But from this number.  No legitimate U.S. exchange starts with the number "0".

Milton's experience just confirms my feeling that these are foreign scams.  Get a lot of calls where the CID and number are both set to "unknown" or "unavailable.  Pure scams.  And most are found to originate in India, Pakistan, and areas in that part of the world.  They spoof what look like legitimate U.S. numbers, then want to get personal info, access to your computer or network, etc.  Microsoft will not call you, unless you call them first.  So far as I know, that is true of most of the vendors, and I spent many years in IT.

These f@#$%ing #$%$#& scammers need to be stopped.

A man called me with a thick Middle Eastern/Indian accent argued that I or Microsoft had been hacked, not sure which. I find out through my own questioning of him that the person he's looking for has a completely different last name. Transferred me to his "supervisor" another gentlemen same accent not as pronounced tried to convince me of the same thing. I proceeded to check a few things as i'm talking to him and no abnormal processes going on in my cpu. I finally hung up after adamantly telling him i didn't trust the legitimacy of the call and would rather use my own tech support. Still tried to argue that my tech support would only check the internet...

Just called today.  I did not answer.  I do not answer calls that are unknown or from area codes I do not know.  If it is important,  they could leave a message.  As previously stated these scammers must be stopped!  The best way to stop them is to ignore the idiots.  It is sad to say that decent people have to get harassed in their homes by losers who are nothing more than scammers.   Thank you for posting your information,  it helps to know what I am dealing with.

I just got one a few minutes ago. He asked if my husband was home I said I would take a message. I asked who it was from, but he didn't let me ask. He hung up on me. Same middle eastern accent. They really need to be stopped!  My phone is on the no call list so why is the Government letting this happen?  This is not the only call I've gotten. Sucks! !!!

I get these ALL the time.  Same thing - middle eastern/indian accent regarding my Windows operating system.  I wish someone would tell me how to stop these calls.  I very clearly ask that my name be taken off their call list every time they call.  At one point I told them I would report them to the state attorney general if they called again - they called again and now I just let it ring and don't answer.

Calling my cell # wants my computer IP address. "REALLY" I get these all of the time, just block the number each time they come in.  Annoying I know. "SCAM"

If anyone gets a call from 842-035-9798 have a referees whistle on hand and blow it as hard as you can into the phone. They will not bother you again. You can get those whistles at WalMart for one place and I am sure many other stores carry them.

Answered phone - didn't pay attention to what showed up on caller ID.  Male said he was with Windows - I told him I hadn't called them.  He then said he wanted to f*#@ me - I immediately hung up.

A call from this number is a scam.

Had a call from this number just awhile ago but I had finally gotten fed up up with all the calls I got everyday so I now have a call blocker. I never answer calls I do not know but get tired of the phone ringing  10 to 12 times , each time , several times a day . Some call two or three times a day from early morning until late evening. Now I just hit the red button as the phone is ringing and the number is showing on my caller ID.
Has been a lot quieter around here lately.
