Got a call where the phone number without dashes showed as the text for the caller ID caller, and the number correctly formatted showed again as the caller ID number.

A partial message was left on my answering machine- a man's voice saying "speak with a representative. It is an urgent matter."  This was the second time I received such a message on my answering machine.

July 6th, 2009, afternoon. My landline phone rings. This phone number is a recent acquisition, and no one I know has been given the number. I answered, expecting to be able to tell the caller that this is not the party s/he was trying to reach. A man's voice on a recording said in a stern voice that this was an important matter, and to press '1' to speak to a person. So I pressed '1' to speak to a person. After a short hold, a man's  voice - seemed the same as the recording - insisted he wanted to speak with L... C... [a woman's name]. I told him she was unknown to me and to please take this number off the file attached to that name. He insisted that 'this is a Federal investigation' and he would be rude if he wanted to be. Yes, and indeed, he was. A soft reply from me - 'please take this number off your file' did not engage his gentler nature. I do not know L... C... and have no business with her. Whether or not it is a Federal investigation, he may find her; but this is a repeat request to stop harassment through my phone number.

A female called from 843-278-0375, asking to verify the last four digits of my social. I asked repeatedlywho this was and what was this concerning. The woman became very beligirent and stated this was "in regard to some kind of debt. A debt that needed to be handled or I would know a new kind of fear. Upon hearing this I promptly hung up the phone.

Received 2 calls from 336-595-2258 on my cell phone.  First on Monday, 6 Jul 09 (I forget the time).  Man's recorded voice said my number was a contact number for a very important business matter.  I hung up.  The next day, at 1:16 PM, same number called.  I didn't bother to answer.

My error.  Above post should have said those two calls were from 843-278-0375.  The number I mentioned (336-595-2258) called in-between the two from 843-278-0375.  It's also an unknown number (both to me, and to anyone on the 'Net, too).  That's three calls in a 24-hour period.  Someone must be making a lot of money, putting my number out for solicitation.

The caller, a male, identified himself as Mr. Adair, regarding a legal matter.

This place called my MIL house asking for my FIL who passed away over 7 years ago. Guy said his name was Al Cole & was looking for my husband, but wouldn't give MIL anymore info. Well, they called our house phone left the same recording as other's have said & called my husband's cell phone & let the same recording. All of the calls happened today.
This is extremely strange.

Been getting messages about how important and urgent and to call them back.  I googled first and never replied back. They use many different area codes. Thank goodness for block caller option on my cell phone.

Got a call  from this number today,  asking o speak with my aunt.  The lady who's name was Christine stated that my aunt need to get a certified attorney to get in touch with her by the end of the day.  Her tone was very nasty and she left a toll free number which was 866/946-1358.  This company has away to get hold of your cell number and because it's in the person's name that they are looking for they interrogate you.  These are very threating phone calls and they need to be told to stop.  Someone could have a heart attack from these calls.  Yes everyone has financial problems and the world is in a recession.  I know half of the ones calling people are in debt too, so to owe a debt should not be foreign to them either!

I too keep getting calls from number 1-843-278-0375, telling me I must call them back right away. The man's name was Mr. Shaldon. He said he was from CRA? Had a case number which I must call him back, very hatful man in his message left on my home landline and also my cell number. I will not call back or respond. Easy answer to all of us getting this type of calls see caller ID number you do not know...do not answer.To many scams going around these days.They use 2 numbers 1-843-278-0375 and 1-866-946-1358

You can submit as much or as little info as you want but if enough people "complain" with at least the company name, CRA, and the phone number, hopefully the FTC will get involved and shut them down or at the very least make them revise their tactics.

My mother received a call from 843-278-0375 in the midwest, inquiring about my ex-wife. I called this number, and there was a reference to my ex's 'still being in the real estate business'. Also, they "needed a statement" from her. My ex is as scandoulis as they come, owes everyone, taxes etc. and this could be a Federal investagation. These guys may be real. I hope they nail her to the wall.

Consumer Recovery Associates:

If you receive a call from this number, you have been called by junk debt / collection agency that buys debt from original creditors that has been written off or settled and is beyond the statute of limitations in most states. They are trying get the money for themselves, not the original creditor.

They are reportedly a serial violator of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). They may be illegally using credit information obtained from Experian or other credit reporting agencies.

This company has been known to contact and harass people they believe may know the person they are trying to reach including distant relatives, ex-spouses and possible former co-workers.

NEVER answer these calls if you see this as a caller ID. NEVER return these calls. NEVER give them ANY information about the person they are seeking or refer them to others.

Any "positive" comments you read in these notes about the company may have been written by employees of the company.

Anytime a person calls asking for someone, just tell them they got the wrong number. I learned a long time ago that a proper business will identify itself before asking for someone's name.

I had debts that are one month away from clearing in my credit report and with this economy, I can't even phantom trying to pay them after seven years even though I have tried and I have paid some.

Got a call from some man saying I had a 7 year old Returned Check.  I could not hear well so they told me to call back on the caller id #. It seemed like a scam so I called back and asked for the name of the company and they would not tell me.  I then was told it was not a returned check but an overdraft from a different year.  I asked for a copy to be faxed and she said it was illegal.  I asked for a copy to be mailed and she said no.  They were so rude that I just hung up.  BEWARE!

I received a call from 843-278-0375 on July 30, 2009. I answered and they said they were looking for me and that they had a very serious business matter to discuss with me. I told them go ahead and talk he said I owed on a credit card from 2000. When I got sick in 2000 I only owed 500.00 he wanted me to give him 3500.00. I told him I was sick and could not pay anything and he threatened to have me thrown in jail and my house taken from me. He said that when he was done he would own my house. I know that the credit card company wrote off the debt because I could not pay. My home is the only thing I have left. I have already lost everything else that I had owned due to illness. I told the man to send me all the information and I would have my attorney look into it and he said that if I could afford an attorney I could pay him. My attorney is a very close friend.

Someone called two of my relatives saying he was an investigator.  This person was looking for my exhusband (15 years ex).  My sister swears it was the police dept bcse the guy was authorative.

Got a call from this number at 8:45 AM, stating someone was trying to open an account in my name and was my last four digits of my S.S. so and so, half asleep I replied yes, upon waking up I redialed this number and got someone named Michelle, who refused to give me the company name, asked me in these exact words "what the hell do you want" and was very nasty and belligerant, I would like to have something done about this but don't know which way to turn, if this is a collection agency, can't we all do something? I know this is wrong, but I sure would like to get my hands on that gal!!!!
