No one there, when I answer.  Most of the time, if I don't recognise the number, I will not answer.  I was just curious this time.  Caller ID gives the message "Phone Call."  Whoever they are...Screw 'Em !

I answered the call from this number and got nothing. I decided to call it back since this is a South Carolina area code and I'm in South Carolina. A machine answered and it says one moment please. The first time I called A nasty chick said it was First national Collection Bureau. She wanted the last 4 digits of my Social Security Number. When I said I don;t have to give her that, she got nasty and hanged up. I called back and a man asked the same. When i said I didn;t have to give that to him he read them off to verify it was me. He claimed to be collecting for some company i never heard of before. So, the next thing I did was, CLICK.

Harassment

I live in Charleston and my mom was visiting. About 2 hrs after she left she received a call from this number and answered and heard nothing on the other line. At the EXACT same time the number called her husbands phone and there was nothing but silence on the other end. Just seems like a scam nothing serious.

The click is the call going through switches - probably overseas. Confirmed: this is one of many numbers for First National Collection Bureau

It isn't overseas, it's in Nevada.  The M.O. is to call you and hang up numerous times until you are curious enough to call them back.  Then they try to trick you into paying off some "bill" that isn't even on your credit report.  Those who are gullible enough to make the first payment often find themselves stuck with charges that are much higher than what they were first told.

Got a call from this number & they just hung up.  Did not leave a message or nothing.  I will not be calling them back.  I have this number blocked from now on.

If you don't want to talk to me don't call my damn number you dimwits! Tired of the phone ringing all day & you people just hang up when I answer. Loose my damn number.

Rude woman wanted to know who I was and the last 4 of my social. I would not give though somehow she had that info already.  She was collecting for a bank I never heard of claiming I had had a credit card with a humongus amount owed. I informed her that her info was entirely incorrect and she hung up.

I got another call from this number. I have had many from this same number. They never say a word, just listen for about a minute then,hang up. Grrrr

Yes...same thing...just called and hung up...don't answer if you see it...

Same people called my number again.  This time I blocked the number with my "Call Blocker".

Nobody Answered.

I just got a call from this number and I have norobo turned on but when I saw the 843 area code I thought I should call back as that is where I live and our area code. I have been waiting for a doctor to call so I didn't want to take a chance. I called back and the lady was very rude. I could hardly hear what she was saying and I asked her to speak up and she claimed she was talking as loud as she WOULD (not could.) She said she was collecting a debt for Verizon in my name and she had an address from 2008 in PA. I told her I have never had an acct with Verizon, which I really didn't. I also told her that I didn't live at that address and she said it was a recent debt from 2012. I told her it was impossible, but she kept cutting me off. I proceeded to tell her if she wanted anything from me she needed to let me speak or I would just hang up, and I told her that reason it was impossible was because I did not live in this country in 2012 I lived in Bermuda! Which I did, so I told her to go fish elsewhere and to never call my number again. I hung up on her and blocked her number.

The full name of the caller is First National Collection Bureau (FNCB).  There is a lot of intel about them here on 800notes and on other sites that document debt collection scams.  The S.C. area code is purely a deception to get you to answer, and to make you think they are a local business.  They are actually located in Reno, and the local BBB there has a very thick complaint file on them.

Federal law requires FNCB to send you a written notice of the alleged "debt" and your legal rights within 5 days of their conversation with you.  I bet they don't.
