I got this call saying I owned the irs money. When all my stuff is good. People like this disgust me man

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Called 3 times in a row. What a pain.

We had a little fun with them. We had our five year old son call them back. It was super cute and hilarious. Funny thing, we went to call back and they blocked our number! Sadness.

Caller told me that I owed IRS lots of money and they were going to come and take me to jail for a long time.

Got a call saying they were IRS I owed money.

They just called me saying I owed the irs money and they will freeze my assets and an agent will visit me tomorrow. I'm so relieved to find out its a scam.

Said they were sending the police after me and they were calling from,IRS!!

I got a call from this number on my cell phone.  I didn't pick up, but it was an automated message (or it least it seemed like it) and only part of it was recorded by my voice mail.  As it happened, I've already received my refund from the feds and paid what I owed to my state.  Never heard of an automated scam before, but perhaps scammers are getting creative.  Given that someone hacked my savings before the holidays I've been a lot more vigilant than usual about my finances.  This actually freaked me out a little bit and I promptly checked to see if what I need to pay my state went through.  It did, and no tax liens have been filed against me either.  I don't know what's going on, but if this is a scam, I'd really like to see the scammer hung out to dry.

They called me again just now, and it was definitely an automated message.  Pretty much a scam.  I've not received anything in the mail from IRS either.

They just tried to tell me I had a lean on my bank account.. they asked me personal info but didn't give any. . Thank god for my sixth sense .. they coudnt get me.... be smart people don't get caught up in this scam.....

My husband received a call from this number stating that our assets would be frozen if we do not make a payment to the IRS.

These people will not give up, they keep calling and calling. Threatening me that they are coming to take me to prison and that I better have an attorney to get me out for defrauding the IRS. Really!!!!!!!! How do you get these people to STOP????

Three called within an hour from them voicemail from an automated system to call them back ASAP on money owed to the IRS- Really annoying-
