I have never own a Old Navy Department Store credit card in my life. I think this is a SCAM to obtain money from me because when I ask for a written "validation notice" the lady got real upset with me and hung up. HAS ANY ONE ELSE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER? IF SO PLEASE POST YOUR RESULTS.
Thanks- Caller: Debit Solution

- Blue replies to PennyI received a call from 18442349980 stating I have a outstanding bill linked to my name and drivers license which I know is definitely not true. I pay cash for almost everything. Don't believe it or give them ANY of your information!
- Mark| 6 repliesReceived a call from them said that in June 2012 I took a pay day loan and never paid it back. That they are giving me 1 last chance to settle before I get arrested. I ask for proof of debt which they said his attorney had he was just in collections. If he ask the attorney for that information they would deem it as not willing to settle and would go ahead and have the police charge me. I called the bank and the day the so called loan was done and my bank has no record of any deposits in that day. He offered a settlement if I paid him that minute. Can anyone else tell me if it is true that once you request document they have to provide you with them before they can dobanything. Just use caution with this number.
- Warren replies to MarkI got a call from that same number yesterday claiming I owed money on a loan I never received. It's fake because once you ask for the paper they have to mail it to you and the threat of arrest makes it even more fake since it would be a civil matter.
- lorie hasnergot a call from this number. Saying information is linked to my husband's driver license.
- Liz| 2 repliesthis number calls me multiple times a day on my cell and my work now. Claiming they're trying to "serve me" they've been calling for years and can never provide proof of debt or anything.

- Alfalfa replies to Liz| 1 replyHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

- Tony| 3 repliesGot a call today saying I owned $1,500 from a loan that I defaulted on, they said that I was facing criminal charges if I did not settle this. They said that this occurred on Sept 2nd 2011 from a Citibank account. Well the Citibank account was closed in 2009 and I was in Prison in 2011. These people are trying everything, they were looking for $700 from me. If they make 100 phone calls a day and get two people to fall for this one operator can net $7,000 a week good knows how many operators there using.
- DKH replies to MarkA TRUE collector would not and cannot threaten you with arrest. Its against the law. I got a call from these morons and when I asked where they were calling from, they would not give an address, another red flag they are crooks, looking on on-line court records, getting information and calling trying to intimidate people into giving them something they have NO LEGAL RIGHT.

- BluejulietGot a call from this number asking for my my husband's ex-wife and my husband. I told her who they were, and that they've been divorced since 1990, and we get collection calls for her all the time. Then she asked for a woman whose name I didn't recognized, and asked whether or not it was someone my husband knows. I had never heard the name before, and she said it was associated with his and his ex's names. I told her it was probably someone his ex-wife knows, and she said she'd take our number off the list. She wasn't rude at all, and apologized for bothering me. This is nothing new where his ex-wife is concerned, so I expect I'll get calls from them (and a lot of others) until the day I die.

- H. E replies to Penny| 1 replyYes. Ive been called by this number also... 844-234-9980 .... she ASK ME FOR ALL OF MY PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION ..and she said I owe her money.. this wonen is taking advantage of people.
- CWG40 replies to MarkThey are required under the federal rules of debt collection to send you a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good. If they fail to do this, there's no way they can effectively sue you in civil court, unless you elect to default. BUT, most of these scam debt collectors never go to court; they rely on fear and threats.
Being in civil debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it. This is common fear inducing technique these scammers use. Do not pay these people anything, ignore their calls and block them.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/Complaint/#debt-collection
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening arrest or criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. - CWG40 replies to Same hereTotal scam. Fraud is a crime, but only public prosecutors in your local district can file charges. Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it. You are not "served" in a criminal case. You are charged.
But like I say, only the local DA can file criminal charges. If you were the subject of a criminal investigation (which I'm sure you're not) you would find out about it from law enforcement. You can check this out by simply going down to your local police station and reporting the scam.
You certainly would NOT hear about it from some cold-calling scammery - scummery debt collectors. Debt collectors have nothing to do with the criminal justice system and have no influence on it. Ignore these peple and block their calls. DO NOT RETURN THEIR CALLS AND DO NOT PAY THEM ANY MONEY OR AGREE TO, AND IGNORE THEIR SILLY THREATS! - CWG40 replies to Tony| 1 replyBeing in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it. We don't have debtors prisons and haven't since the 1830s Ignore these people and block their calls.
