Called twice today.  Did not leave a name, only that they wanted to talk to me concerning a legal filing in my county

Called six times this morning. Left one message stating they need to talk to me about an accounting issue.  I smell a scam.  I blocked the number.

Recorded message on my voice mail stated for me to call this number back in references to charges filed against me in my county.  Automated recording inserted my name.  It did not state who it was calling.  Called from 803-349-4311.

I got the same call at 7:06am, which I let go to voicemail. Though the message referenced a toll-free 844 number, my caller id showed the call as being from 210-022-5520. I had the same genetic script about charges filed against me with the county, my name having been added electronically, inserted into a pause. The caller did not identify himself or the company he was calling on behalf of, nor what county he was referencing.

Mine is the same, ever since I got a payday loan they have been calling. Mine stated the exact same, called me and referenced the 844-247-1985 but called me from an 803 area code.  Regarding filed charges against me in my county.

They called my best friend and left a voicemail for me stating the same thing as the other posts. No company name always make me think scam.

Got call saying legal matter, call 844-247-1985 for more details.  Call was from a area code 803.  Blocked caller once before but it was a different area code.

Same thing for me. Did you even call them back?

I just got this one at work.  I have had quite a few of these since being a victim of ID theft.  It is very frustrating

Same thing, cryptic message about charges filed. I've been in the process of cleaning up stuff on my credit report, and I did pay off a lot of debts, so I am very up to date on what negative or collection accounts that I have. Most agencies advise you that they have contacted you in order to collect a debt. Lying about charges filed can't be legal. I reached a "Steve Wilson" after calling 844-247-1985, and he didn't give me the name of the company or his name until I interrupted his script. I asked him if he was a process server (process servers don't call, they just show up with a summons), and he just kept saying, "but you did take out this loan" and the last four digits of my SSN. I told him I believed the call was illegal, that it was harrassment, and certainly a scam. He was a scumbag. I had to hang up. I guess I'm concerned now that I called back, but they called my work and I'm pretty sure if you ask them not to call at work they have to remove the number. But, that's real agencies, not this fake one. I track everything on my report, and this is obviously a scam to scare less aware people into paying for loans they haven't taken out. Yes, A few years ago I took out some loans. They have all been paid. However, every month I still receive automated calls saying I have been approved for the recent loan I applied for - which is total BS. Payday loans should be avoided at all costs. I wish I could change my work number!

Yes, you're right.  Somehow these crooks are either affiliated with or have obtained access to some of the payday loan companies database.  They use this information illegally to intimidate people with scare tactics to scam money.

I took out a payday loan more than 8 years ago and failed to pay it back by the deadline. The loan was eventually sent to collections. I accepted the payoff deal offered by the collection agency and paid off the loan 5 years ago.  About a month ago, I started receiving the same calls with the same messages noted above, about charges being filed against me in my county. I assume these calls are related to that old payday loan but I haven't called the 844 number to confirm, nor do I plan to.  Fortunately, I retained all my payoff information and I also contacted the county clerk in "the county where I live" to confirm that there is in fact no such case or charge filed against me. Though if this agency ever actually filed a charge against me, they would not only lose the case but likely be sanctioned for abuse of process as well.

This collection agency is evidently a 2nd or 3rd tier agency that tries to turn a profit by exploiting old debts and hoping past debtors have long since discarded any information that could help them defend themselves. I don't know everyone's situation on this site, but I know I was in a bad way when I needed that loan so many years ago and I've been highly blessed since.

If you know, or suspect, you don't owe a debt on an old payday loan, DO NOT contact these people. If they were legit, they would have sent you something in writing and they would happily leave more information on your voicemail than merely your recorded name. If you call them, they will likely bully you into givi ng them more identifiable information they can use to continue to harass you.

If you're not sure whether you owe an old payday loan or if you want to confirm whether this "agency" has actually filed charges against you, contact both the credit bureaus and the county clerk where you live. The credit bureaus will let you know who's claiming against you as creditors and the county clerk can let you know whether there are any pending charges against you.

I received the same message about 10 minutes ago.  The only difference is that my caller id showed this number 619-014-2589. I think it is a scam
