My mother and I both (different residences) received a call from (844) 253-5283 from a Michael Stevens who said he was calling to schedule a time to serve me with a summons. Um, I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way! Another scammer but I haven't seen that number anywhere so I thought I'd add it to this list.

I just received a call from Michael Stevens JB Associates and they are trying to collect money from me for a pay day loan back in 2011 but was not able to provide any information - all he said was they brought the loan from a third party, and have a case pending against me for fraud and he didn't know the name of the original lender.  I also got a call from Jeff Kennedy who give me a direct name of 569-288-8719 when I attempted to call back the number wasn't working; so I called back the 844-253-5283 ext 402 and when I was put on hold the caller called me back from a different number and hang up from the call I placed.  I called back and informed the guy that I have contacted my pre-paid legal team and I needed the address and fax number - basically Mr. Kennedy stated he doesn't have a fax number (Now what kind of Debt Collector doesn't have a fax number?)  and he stated to have the lawyer to call him - I asked don't you know a statement from me allowing the my lawyer to discuss my case information - he said no (So my question - really why not?)

I just received a call from 844-253-5283 regarding a person with my last name, whom I do not know.  He said his name was Josh and he was calling about serving a summons by 5 pm and to call to stop the summons.  I called the number back blocking my number and a man said JB Associates.  I hung up.  I do not know what the scam is but husband also received a call.  I would not advise calling the number.

Typical debt collection scam call.  Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email/fax/phone - proof of your debt and proof your caller has the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial contact with you is a violation of federal law.  More on this type of scam here:

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

No problem.  In fact, that's what these scammers hope to do - get you so flustered and upset, that you pay them to go away - which never happens.  If you do pay a scammer, they sell your information to other scammers, and you get more calls saying you didn't pay the debt back.  Always remember this: NEVER pay anyone who refuses to mail that documentation to you.  In all cases they're either scammers or shady debt collectors who can't prove you owe that money to them in the first place.

I just received a call from a private number regarding coming to serve me for a payday loan from 2010.  I asked when in 2010, he stated end of 2010.  I asked him for the date again which he couldn't provide.  He stated to call 844-253-5283 to find out details.  When I called it, sounded like the same guy trying to disguise his voice.  I gave him the case number given to me and he stated it was regarding a payday loan in 2010.  I told him I didn't take a payday loan out and that I wanted paperwork on this sent to me and he said he couldn't do that and hung up on me.  This is a scam so beware...

I just received a call today stating that I took out a payday loan back in 2012 and I would be served today. I needed to pay the loan off now or pay later which would be a huge amount of money. They couldn't tell me the original date I took the loan. And note a vais case number. Only some strange doc#. I said I wanted to research before paying. After hours I get a call from rude Mike demanding me to pay. That I needed to pay by 4pm. From a weird FL number. I call the 844, number back and they answer as JB & Associates and it's Mike's voice, I don't even say who I am and he screams "pay your bill" and hung up!! Scammmmm

I just got a call from my ex husband, we divorced in 2000. He said he got a call from 84-253-3965 from a Mike. Last name was RudeAss. Gave my ex a case # and told him if I don't call them today them my ex will be going to court tomorrow for me. Lmao.....ummm is that how that works? We haven't seen each other in 4 years. Have zero debt together. I apparently took out a loan in 2011, which i didn't and i either pay now or go to court. That's not how it works in this state. Total scam.
