I let the man take over my computer, but I had to pay $160 for a 1-year service. Now I am worried sick that they may have all my information, passwords, etc. What should I do now?

- Pudge replies to BabeSome of the regulars are far more learned about these things than I and they will probably weigh-in soon. In the meantime you may want to run a malware scan on your computer. This site talks about some of these problems and makes suggestions for "damage control."
https://blog.malwarebytes.org/tech-support-scams/
You might want to check out Norton or McAfee. They make some pretty good security software and they may have more suggestions/solutions on their web sites.
Hope this helps. - noscammers replies to Mike| 2 repliesI suspect you work for they. They are not legit!
- Annoymous| 1 replyThese guys are crooks. They setup a 3 year warranty on my computer. Then, they called with my original invoice information saying that they are giving me a refund due to losing their contract. They send a huge amount of money into my account and said it was a server error. I paid them the difference only to find out that there was no credit to begin with. They use numbers like unknown, and 214-686-5522. I guy with middle eastern accent name Jim calls. I could hear background homes. I had given these guys control in teamviewer and found him trying to trash Norton Antivirus.

- Tamianth replies to AnnoymousWith thanks to Slim--registered user here:
Since the scammers accessed the computer, they probably did one or more of the following:
• Disabled the anti-virus software
• Added nasty malware to the computer
• Copied the Contact List (so they can spam/email your soon-to-be ex-friends)
• Copied any financial data or passwords they could find
• Compromised your ID
• "Zombied" the computer, so it would respond to THEIR commands sent via internet
• Deleted some important files
• Asked for money to repair the damage they caused
What can you do immediately after such an attack?
1. Pull the cables on the computer, so it cannot access the internet.
2. Change ALL passwords stored on the computer
3. Run FULL malware scans on the computer, in "SAFE" mode!
4. Change the passwords again, particularly if the malware scans showed anything
5. Inform your bank and credit card companies
6. Sign up for credit monitoring, and check the status frequently
7. You may have to bring the computer to a local repair shop, and tell them the story.
8. Tell friends what happened, so they can be aware of strange emails from you
9. Plug in the cables only AFTER all the above have been done
10. Change the passwords on all online accounts. Even better - access a "safe", uninfected computer, and chance your online account passwords RIGHT NOW.
NOTE:
If your computer set a "Restore Point" while it was infected, any "System Restore" you make will re-infect your computer. Suggest you delete any potentially infected restore points and avoid setting such restore points until after your computer has been thoroughly cleaned!

1 844 266 2029 - ahna replies to Susan| 1 replyI called our phone carrier Verizon. They GAVE me the number 800-675-8136 in order to contact yahoo to help with an app that wasn't functioning. I got that mayas company instead and didn't know it at the time. They told me my computer had been hacked by somekoobface virus and I needed to download 2 programs to get rid of the hackers, etc. Then they gave me the number 844-266-2029 where some guy named Sam was to proceed with the downloads. I didn't feel right about this so I had geek squad check my computer. My computer was NEVER HACKED> DO NOT CALL EITHER OF THESE NUMBERS. They are imposters!! Found out from Yahoo that they would never charge any fees for servies, etc and to contact the authorities, which I did.
- ahna replies to Babecontact your credit card company and alert them. This IS fraud
- Richard replies to ahnaI had precisely the same experience as both Susan and Ahna Nov 21 and 21, 2015, after speaking first with Jason Gill (ext 423) who insisted I was hacked with the Bookface worm., Subsequently scans with Microsoft Safety Scanner and with Malwarebytes indicated a complete absence of viruses or worms. Jason tried to con me with eventsviewer, showing some stopped services indicating I was not protected, and then with run/c:/richard/metstat to show there was a foreign address in the active connections which purportedly confirmed "hacking" This outsourced Maya service company has level 2 and level 3 technicians who attempt to sell their 1, 3 5 and 7-year computer assistance contracts from $150 to $600 per contract. The referring companies should be alerted, unless of course they get a kickup from this scam.
- Richard replies to noscammers| 1 replyFor they or for them? Did you learn English here in illiterate America?
- ScammedI called this Maya's service thinking I was calling yahoo. Their number was listed as 888-411-1123 under yahoos ad. Yahoo had informed me that someone from Nigeria was trying to get into my email. These people ( all with heavy accents but names like Stephen, Ronnie , David ) convinced me to take their service for 99.99 one time charge . They assured me that they could fix it so no one could get past their blocks. After I gave them my cc number I became scared and asked where the guy was talking from and he said California. I live on the east coast. I asked what time is it there, he took 30 seconds to answer me ( it was 5 am EST) he said before answering about the time,"I work the night shift, you know we are open 24/7 stalling. After that I really became concerned and tried to cancel but he told me I couldn't . I was frantic. After I hung up I googled this company and saw their ad that they offered 100% money back gtd. I immediately called my cc company and they said I could not cancel the charge at that time that it was in the pending stage and the receiving company had to do it or I could wait till it went through and dispute it. I asked the cc company where the charge was posted to and they said Germany. Hmmm... I called Maya's back and told them I wanted to take them up on their money back gtd. They talked and talked ( most of it I couldn't understand) then offered me the service for $49.99. And said their technicians had already started to work on my case and they had to be paid. This was an hour after I called. I said no cxl it and either way they were not getting paid because I would dispute the charge. After some waiting "billing" came on the line and wanted a 3 way with my cc company. At that time the charge was cancelled. They look like a ligit business but act very shady and are very persuasive . Not professional at all. Idk just glad to have my money back.
- Summ replies to MikeI was scammed out of $91.99 when I was having issues with my yahoo account they said it was Yahoo tech-support and I could call back Chrissy at extension 425 with any issues. They were trying to upsell me but ended up charging me $91.99 for a six-month support from Mayas Service and even gave me a customer ID number. I've tried calling the number and it is disconnected. They are totally fraudulent took my Social Security number, credit card numbers and passwords to my computer.
