- joGot call at 12pm california time. Same scam, something filed against you, filed with county clerk and state, we will come to your home etc etc. Call made from a 916-252-0796. Asking for a family member who has never been associated with my number. Very difficult to understand, heavy accent, Jamaican or something similar. Gave a reference number also.
- Caller: Wjohn something?
- JanI also got a call from a woman with a Jamaican or Haitian accent claiming something was filed against my daughter (who doesn't live with me) with child services! Call was made from a local number but the call back number is the 844 number. Gave a bogus case number as well.
- JenniferThis company has left messages with 3 different company names/ processing arbitration places. With 5 different #'s. I was told they are not licensed to collect debts and I will not pay them. The known #'s that I have been hassassed with are
1-409-684-2114, 1-855-835-2362, 1-713-773-3100, 1-210-503-0253, 1-215-364-8256,1-844-224-1497,1-844-276-0353,1-855-891-8849. They call my work, my brother, my mother. I have taken care of some loans that I do owe. I am not paying someone that is not licensed. And if you put most of these #'s in google you come up with the scam alerts. Especially the 844 #s!- Caller: Nationwide Recovery Association/Northworth Recovery

- DSame thing as above. came through on 262-438-0260 that then referenced 844-276-6779 in the VM with a case number. Called both numbers and same voice (Jamaican) with different name answered. Asked to politely speak to someone I could understand a bit more clearly and she hung up. Could not make out VM but same sort of content... gave up legal rights, will contact employer.....

- kevin koonter| 1 replyThis place has called from 2 different numbers. Giving us a claim # of 438417. women states she will be serving me at work. Will not provided any information on what is owed. She continue to call my grandfather, my parents and my cell number. I have called the courts that this person said they filed through and I have also called the sheriff department in Mullaken MI. How do we make these calls stop
- WolfmanJack replies to kevin koonterThis is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

All the calls came in showing a local number on the caller id. The message was very difficult to understand. It appears they have been doing this for some time but using the number 844-276-0353 as a call back number. Always a person with an accent, rude, pushy and difficult to understand. The names they use are April Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Sharon Smith, Tracy Brown, Wendy Baker, Stephanie Wilson, John Wellington and James Addison. They always give the same line and demand money immediately on some sort of defaulted payday loan. When my mother in law told them to stop calling because she didn't know the person they were looking for, the woman told her that they would not stop but rather they would continue to call her over and over. Can't find any information on this company other than it is a scam.

- PhilWife received call from 844 276 6779. They demanded info on my son and gave her a fake case number. I called them and (surprise) the person barely spoke English. Told them I had contacted the Portland Oregon police and they told me it was a scam!!! The so called woman I was talking to hung up. I called again and demanded to speak with a manager. Again barely spoke English and said his name was Kevin ( yea right) he got real nervous when I told him I called police and he said they would not call again

- Barbara| 1 replyThey called my brother and left him messages, so I called them and they said they are Northwest Recovery (NRA) and they are arbiters for GPI Holding. They have a heavy accent and said something about not paying a pay day loan (which I never did) on a case # 473649 and that if I don't pay right away, they will be garnishing my wages and taking me to court. I asked them how I could pay this, and she stated with a debt card or a pre-paid card would be great. I will be calling the sheriff's dept and reporting this as a scam

- maggie| 1 reply844-276-6779. This number is calling my 87 year old frail mother who is blind and almost deaf; she has a special phone to hear callers. This number calls her at all hours and just leave a number to call back. The problem is when you do call back all you get is a recording to leave your phone number. Oh, and when they call, it is a recording also. So you never get to speak to a real person. I left my number today, and I know I am going to regret it because I expect to receive calls soon. I did report this number to the better business bureau, the state attorney's number, consumer finance and a host of other places. I have also called Northwest Recovery and Nationwide Recover as cited above in the off chance that they are making the calls. Both denied doing so. I just pray that they will stop calling her because she can't sleep because she is scare and doesn't know what is going on and it is affecting her health. It is incredibly sad that companies can bully old people like this.

- BillThey called my family in Connecticut instead of calling me. After researching them I would not call them back as it looks as if they are not a legitimate company. I would want to have been sent something in writing before getting a BS call like this.

- MarieReceived call from 844-276-6779, saying I owed money for a payday loan default and defrauding a lender. She said I needed to pay today or they would follow through with my summon of the courts. She asked for my case number? I told her that is what she needs to provide me, which she didn't, but gave me some ID# 444785. I contacted the police they stated this is a hoax, there is nothing against me. They advised not answer any further calls and report them immediately to the BBB.

- Wrong number| 2 repliesI have been getting calls from 844 276-6779 and the first two calls were voice mails from some woman with a heavy accent wanting to tell Alejandro Hernandez that he needs to pay or they will file a warrant....blah, blah, blah. Then they give a call back number with case number. I do not know anyone by this name. Now they just keep calling and my missed call is the 844 number.
