- Roger| 14 repliesReceived a call from the above number saying they were Stark Recovery and I owed $500 from a payday loan taken out in July of 2013 and I was being sued because the payment came back insuffient funds. To settle I would have to pay $2600 as first option. I told them I had received nothing via mail, phone or email and didn't know who this Kingston Services was. Did a reverse phone lookup and it could not find the number.

- BobbyYeah I got the same phone call. They said I got a payday loan back in 2011 in the amount of $300, same Company Stark Recovery. I can settle out of court for over $650 or in court for $2600. I'm like what company did I get this from as I've never gotten a payday loan. Couldn't tell me anything...I'm filing a police report, BBB report and Consumer's Affair report.

- Tracey McCauleyHe called said his name was Sam Turner gave me a claim number. Said my social, bank acct. number and address. Said I had an online payday loan from 2011 for $300. It was defaulted and I have 2 options to pay $700 to take care of loan today or face legal actions and have to pay $2700. He kept telling me I had 2 options. Couldn't provide documentation said it was already sent. I said this hasn't showed up on my credit report said it was probably not reported. Said it was from Mac Developement that is over a million loan companies. I wouldn't answer yes to address and account number. Scary but he's not getting my money.
- MichelleI received the very same call today, except the know my SSN and they know which bank I bank through. I was told I did an online loan in 2012 for $300 and that If I settled today for $810 they would not sue me for $2810. I ended up loosing connection and when I tried to call back it went to a voicemail stating please leave a message after the tone. Legally collection agencies have to state who they are and that they are a collection agency trying to collect a debt.

- LillyI just got a call from the same number. The lady said she was from Stark Recovery and asked me to verify my SSN for security purposes. I refused to verify my SSN (they knew it, but I wouldn't say it was correct). She said "Okay, we'll forward your file. Good luck Ma'm." She hung up before I could ask any other questions. When I called the number back there was a recording that asked me to leave a message.

- ElizabethThey called me last night saying I took out a loan in 2012 for 300 and that I intended to fraud them because the money wasn't in my account to pay it back. They said i could either pay 800 and asked for my debit card number, or go to court and it would cost me 2000.00 I knew this was a scam, said see ya in court and hung up. Don't pay these people, they will wipe your bank account clean!

Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them

Series Name NOT AUTHORIZED TO ESTABLISH SERIES - Alex| 1 replyGot a call early this morning. Didn't say who they were, just told me that I was delinquent on a payday loan back in 2012 for $350. Was told I could settle this with a $750 payment due today or go to court and pay $2600. I asked how I could have a payday loan from 2012 since I wasn't 18 at the time she said that someone must have taken my info and since it is on my credit with my ssn and bank account I was responsible for the fees. They knew my SSN and Back Account info but I refused to give them any money because I knew this was a scam. After I hung up they called me three more times and when I didn't answer, they called and harassed my mom trying to get a hold of me. I will be filing a police report.

- RobertThis is a scam. See below... This company may call you and tell you that you owe GTI Holdings Inc money..> This is a comment from the BBB when you look up GTI Holdings Inc...
I have filed a CFPB compliant and District Attorney complaint. I encourage you to do the same!
BBB has been contacted by the law firm that represented GTI. The following is from this firm: "GTI is no longer in business. It has been out of business since mid 2013. Despite the fact that GTI has never engaged in any debt collection activity; quit selling debt and wrote-off all uncollected debt in June 2014; and currently has no relationship with any debt collection companies, GTI has come to learn that fraudulent collectors have been using GTI’s name to collect non-existent debts. On behalf of GTI, we are working to make these fraudulent collectors cease and desist their collection attempts.
If you are the subject of any collection efforts claimed to be based on a debt owed to GTI, it is likely a fraudulent collection attempt. If you need assistance or can assist GTI’s investigation into these collection activities please contact GTI’s legal counsel John Mullen at (816) 421-7100.

According to information in BBB files, this business is no longer in business. - BigA replies to AlexThe police are not the proper place to file a complaint. Read the following and use the links to report these criminals where it will do the most good.
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
