- SherryThis is the THIRD number that has called my work phone with a recorded message askin me to call about an 'urgent' matter regarding debt collection. I called back this time and when the person who answered asked me to verify the last 4 of my SSN, I advised her that I would not confirm any information and asked for the name & mailing address for the company she worked for so that I could send a letter to request that they stop calling me. She told me should could not give me that information unless I verified my SSN and when I again said no, she became VERY rude and said that she could not provide any information until I confirmed mine. As soon as I started to speak again, she hung up on me.
- jennifer demarco| 1 replyif you want the number removed you can call and ask for the number to be removed
- Slim replies to jennifer demarco>> if you want the number removed you can call and ask for the number to be removed <<
By calling back, you merely verify your phone number is "live".
Legitimate telemarketers might remove your phone number, but they would not have called in the first place, if your number is on the Do Not Call list!
So, the person who suggested calling back is ... um ... a shill? - JoyGot a call from them. Returned the call. Said they looking for someone by the name of XXX. I said that I did not know that person. They apologized and said they would not call again.

- AnonymousAlways calls at the same time (9:20) talking about wanting to get in contact with XXXXX and that the call is confidential and urgent...a machine is the one calling and when I call back I get the machine again saying there is no one available to talk to me. I've called at several different times in the early morning and late afternoon numerous times and it counties to say no one can talk to me.
- Patti| 2 repliesThis number has called me 2 days in a row, leaving me a voicemail with an "urgent call for "____", if you are not "____" please hang up"; however, there is no name in the recording so I have no idea of who they are trying to contact (wondering if it's not my adult son since I had someone else call for him last week).

Its a scammer trying to scare you into paying a debt you don't owe. They didn't put your name in the blank because they have not yet hacked into a data base that contains your phone number and name. - BigA replies to PattiThis NRS group seems to be popping up today, they must be making a lot of calls trying to extort money from people:
This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number. Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
