    Received a robotic voice mail from a Karen Bentley stating she had papers to server to me to my place of employment or residence. If I have questions to please call the Plaintiff at 844-399-9881. I believe this to be a scam. I even looked up in our states court system for all counties and there is no judgments against me or anything. These are probably buyers of old debts and trying to scare you. I didn't call them back because this happened to me years ago and they just harassed me even more and it wasn't any debt of mine. It's better to report them instead of calling them back.  They finally left me alone once I told them I reported them and contacted my lawyer. I have no clue who this Karen Bentley is but I have no intention of call them.

    Exactly the same message as above.  I had been getting similar calls from various numbers for over a year now.  Everytime I would block one, they would call from another number.  Now this one shows up as unknown.  They are literally driving me crazy and can't figure out how to make them stop!!

    Since last week, I have been getting the exact same call as other callers have stated. I know for a fact that this is a scam because I do not owe anyone anything, and I'm current on all my bills.  It is a scare tactic to get people to call them back. Those who are not aware that this is phony become worried and try to find out what the call is about. Once they get someone to be in contact with them, they will work on them to get some amount of money from them.

    I have been so tempted to call them back and tell them that I would prefer they "serve" me at my place of employment, at 666 Diablo Street, Hell, CA.

    I too have received phone calls over the last 2 days from a Karen Bentley stating that she had papers to server to me at either my place of employment or residence.  The call also stated that I should "call the Plaintiff at 844-399-9881" if I have any questions. The call shows up as unknown on the caller ID.

    Been receiving same call from  Karen Bentley exactly as Alice mentioned.  I've tried calling 844-399-9881 number she mentions and no one answers.  I've checked my credit report and no outstanding balances show up.  Also checked state records and no judgements against me show up.  This sounds like a scam!  Calls just started yesterday and they're already driving me nuts!!  How do you make them stop?

    I received the same message again today. The call this time came in unknown. Yesterday it showed restricted.  I went against what I said in my first post and I called them back. I got a recording stating I called Johnson, Cohen & Associates and all rep's were busy and please hold. I hung up and called back 3 times and finally got a male rep. I asked to speak with Kathy Bentley and he stated she was busy. I told him to have her not call my phone any longer. I told him I know for a fact I do not have any judgement against me or a  current bill (under 7 years) and if I did and was not aware then they need to validate the debt with the creditors name, etc or just freak'in server me the papers that really don't exist.The whole time I was saying this he was yelling at me and trying to over talk me.  I told him if they were really a law firm  or server as they try to make you think, they won't bother harassing me and would just server me. He hung up on me. I still bet they call again and then I will report them if they can not prove to me they are for real....and I know they are not.

    Received several calls from this number looking for my fiancé. Called back and told him we would be happy to pay any valid debts and if they would just send a bill in the mail, we would settle it if it was valid. I have a video showing the call I made to them. On the call they verified they were aware that the debt was discharged under bankruptcy yet they were still trying to collect on it. If anybody is interested in using this video to pursue legal action against Webber, Cohen & Associates, please reply to this thread and let me know. I will glady serve it up. The collector on the phone states, "your fiancé is a slime ball and you should be happy you've got such a loser to marry".

    Your callers are the real "slime balls" - especially since they cannot legally go after anyone for debts discharged in bankruptcy.  Glad you didn't let them rattle you!

    The only "loser" is your caller - he's a scammer.  They can't do zip to you.  They call people hoping to scare them into paying either a bogus debt, a debt that's already been paid (or taken care of in bankruptcy), or even a debt that is owed - but not to the callers.  If your phone has a number block feature, please do block them, or look at buying a call blocker to do this - you can get a good one for less than $50 nowadays.

    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
