Received a call, saying I owed money, from several years ago. Tried to get payments, and told me I would go to court.

called me saying I had a debt from 2011 for a power company. I asked for verifiable proof, they said they didn't have anything, it would all be served to me and I have to go to court.

Aggressive, deceptive, and creative debt collection agency.  Called a distant relation with whom I haven't spoken in years, trying to establish contact.  Implied they were someone they weren't, with just enough personal information given to seem legit.  Utilized external research to use information to which they and their client had no reason to know, including medical conditions which arose years after contact with said client.
Don't even pick up the phone.  They know what they are doing, and mean business if they're calling you.  These are the guys companies call when a debt statute of limitation is about to run out, and they will aggressively utilize any information they have at their disposal to gain direct contact and serve court papers.  After that, your options are quite limited.

This is a scam from Lincoln Debt Collection. Called me and threatened me with court papers and arrest, when I told her I was sitting here with the police as I had already filed a complaint against them she immediately disconnected. This company is listed in Ripoff Reports!

Why did this lady  called  me. About a house hold card that I own money for when I don't have one. Something needs to be done about. There probably. After that she gave me another number to call.800-975-4722

They said that I owe money to citi bank for thousand something. I had no idea about any credit card

My neighbor and other family members getting calls looking from this number for me stating they are tried to serve me with papers for a civil suit but that my phone number they have for me does not work. If anyone was going to serve you with papers they to not call first.

Received a call from a 562-371-9136 stating they tried to serve me papers & wanting me to call 844--441-6987 to get more information & verify my address..after googling this number appears to be a scam..something not right..why call if trying to serve me papers

This slick talker, spoke fast, refuse to speak clearly, and would answer questions with questions instead of actually answering something. said was calling from DVS, but couldn't tell me what DVS stood for.  Big time scheme.

Don't know who they want or why?

This phone number does not have a legitimate name and the guy said that they will file a civil suit to my social security number. Also, that they are a law firm. I had an account with Brylane 9 years ago which was paid to NCO Financial and apparently this is coming from there. This account doesn't even show up in my credit!!!

This is what happens when you pay a debt collector without making them follow the law. Now your name and information has been sold to other crooks as an easy mark.

Called and said they were trying to deliver papers to me, needed my permission to leave them with my spouse. SCAM! Would not give their name or the name of the company they were called from or about!

Got a call from 9177023045 saying they are looking for a relative regarding civil law suit and told me to call back 8444416987.  What a scam!

They have to prove you owe the debt. You don't have to prove you don't. They also have to prove they have the legal right to collect it. Learn what you should already know at the CFPB web site and your state attorney general and while you are there, report them.
