I don't know much but they said I owed sales tax from 1996.  I have never had a company that was required to collect sales tax.

Our habit is when we see a phone number we do not recognize, is to hit "speakerphone" and the immediately disconnect.  We always check the number though.  Seeing this is involving the Indiana Tax Amnesty, I had to post.  I am a resident in Indiana and my deceased father is eligible for the amnesty.  We received a detailed  letter from the Indiana Dept of Revenue of what tax was owed, plus a payment coupon and return envelope.  Trust me, the state will NEVER call!  The toll free number for the program is 844-TAXESIN (844-829-3746).  Thank goodness for sites like this to save another from the scum sucking scammers!!

so I called them back. it's some kind of tax thing. I spoke with a representative who asked for my information. I said tell me who you're calling and I'll let you know if I'm that person. they had the wrong name. I rent, so that is plausible. they said they would take my # off and .. I should receive no more calls ...

my brother just died this morning. while we were dealing with this, an automated voice phone call from this number of 1-844-468-2992 called. i only listened to a small portion before realizing it was a scam and hung up, but they were trying to say that i needed to take advantage of a tax break i had been selected for. now about 3 weeks ago i had been called by a real living person that sounded like they had an oriental or asian accent claiming to be from the american federal grant office and that i had been selected based on my citizen record of good behavior to win a $7,849.00 grant from the government. i knew it was a scam and did not give them any info they didnt already have...but they did already have my phone nbumebr obviously as they called me and they had my full name and my full address and my single status. after i failed to call them back at a different number to intiate my winning payment they actually called me back within 20 minutes!! they were very persistent and tried to verbally push me to call the number. i hung up again and called the police. i never heard anything back from the police after telling them about the phone call. i am about to c all the police again now to report to them about this new call. i honestly think they are related.

A woman called from this number. She asked to speak with my father. He has been dead for over 15 years now. His name has never been associated with my phone number. He died in a completely different town. I'm not sure what to do, but I have a feeling that something is going on that shouldn't be.  I live in Michigan

After reading posts I decided to post. This number just left a message on answering machine. A lady said call was for my brother. (Yes my brother passed 10 years ago.) She said to call back using some reference number. These people really need to get a life. Really did not need this call today!!!!!!

I've been getting calls from this number every day for several weeks. A woman says she needs to speak with a man, she says his name, and claims it is urgent. In her latest message she sounds desperate and said her name is Laura from Tax Amnesty. I'm glad I decided to look this number up! The man she asks for built the house we live in. We're the third owners and the original owner is dead. My answering machine even says my last name which is obviously not the name she's looking for. After reading your posts I wonder if people are trying to get the social security numbers of deceased Americans? I don't know but it's definitely a scam!

Common grant scam.  Originates in India and Pakistan.  There is no grant.  They want an upfront fee sent to them by untraceable means.  Once that's done, they disappear.  Been going on for years.  There's  nothind local police can do about it.  Call blocker might be of some help.  Ignore them.

Caller asked for an individual who has been deceased for 11 years.  When I said he was not here, she said have a nice day and hung up.  The deceased person was never affiliated with this number and I never knew him.  I think they start with a name they know is deceased to try to get information from whoever answers.  I will file an FCC complaint.

Some man called and asked to speak to me ... I was surprised because he pronounced my name correctly. He did not leave his name, the name of the business, or why he was calling. I don't answer phone calls from unidentified numbers.

Woman named "Jayma" left a voice mail and called from 844-468-2992.  I didn't recognize the number, so didn't answer.  Her message was for someone who is not me, and not a name I recognize (James Ingall I believe).  Asked to call back 844-468-2993 with a reference number.  Did not say why, or what company she is with.  I won't be calling back.  I do have an Indiana phone number.

missed the call... left a message... Indiana Tax Amnesty ... need to call back at earliest convenience... left a reference number..
I hit redial and 30 seconds later recording starts, this call will be recorded for training purposes... the another pause and another recording with the Hours of Operation and to call back during that time... imagine this... they listed times for saturday and sunday...

Seems every six months a new number rings up with some back tax or dead relative that I need to pay out to get my share...
    its a scam... the # 844-468-2992

Yup.  A scam of the first water.  You might cut down on calls by not responding at all.  Not answering helps, as does not calling back.  If you are being called only every few months, letting your number become sort of a Black Hole makes sense.  Or check back here and see what other tips you can get.

Yesterday I posted a phone number in reference to a scam.. Indiana Tax Amnesty with a reference number and my immediate attention to call back.
Today I received a letter in the mail … yes, USPS delivered from none other than Indiana Tax Amnesty. Enclosed was a letter informing back taxes were owed and that I had 30 days to pay or the fines and interest would cause the debt to increase. They offered a one-time reduced payment to close the debt.
Funny thing is I did live in Indiana 12 years ago however I received a refund that year.
The bottom portion was the “payment form”  The reverse side of the form had when the tax delinquency occurred and three addresses and phone numbers to call.
Well I contacted my CPA and asked her to look into it. She did call them and the fella couldn’t give any details and just referred to the In.Gov link… The CPA then said she would take the tax return and pay at  the state office. The fella said she had to pay online or or mailed to the address listed or it would not be considered paid.  The CPA hung up, called back 5 minutes later and it was the same fella.
If this was a State Gov run department,  the hours of operation would not be M thru F 8am to 9pm, Sat 10am to 8pm, and Sun 1pm to 7pm
    It’s a SCAM…  Don’t fall for it.
