- Victim 3| 1 replySpent over an hour and a half on the phone with them trying to "resolve" the issue with our account. They said they required a cash payment in order to prevent the service at our retail business from being turned off. Since we're a business and keep all of our invoices, offered to scan and e-mail or fax them a copy of our most recent invoice showing that we not only weren't delinquent, but actually had a credit on our account, was given a bogus e-mail address to send the file to and was then transferred to a "supervisor." After speaking with a supervisor and directly accusing them of being a scam, I was hung up on. I then called APS directly and was told that all five of our business accounts were in good standing. Please don't fall for this scam. Unbelievable that things like this exist and aren't shut down almost immediately.
- Caller: Claimed to be APS.
- William replies to Victim 3Is APS the "Arizona Public Service Company" which is the largest electric utility in the state of Arizona?
- VictimizedI received at a call from yesterday at our business from a guy who identified himself as MANAGER for APS. He stated our service was being disconnected in 1 hour if payment was not made. I told him we paid our bill. He said they never received it and asked for my confirmation number. I told him I would have to call back. He gave me the following number to call back. 1-844-468-9369 X1203. I called APS directly at 602-371-7171 and was told they never made any such calls and it's fraud. I was told to report it to our local law enforcement and file a claim with the attorney general office. I was also told this is under investigation by the FBI. I contact the company back to see if I could get any additional information. When I called back the recording appeared to be APS recording instructing you to push number for specific services. I enter X1203 and was transferred to the guy I originally spoke to who identified him as JASON REED, I asked their address and I was given the real address to APS in Phoenix. I asked him how much was the balance due. He told me $150 but he couldn't give any more information. I then revealed to him I had actually called APS directly and they told us our bill was current and never late. He replied by stating we spoke to customer service and he was in collection for APS. I also stated APS said they were a fraud. He said that's not true I work for APS collection. I told him I was going to report in to my local law enforcement. He said he didn't care. If I thought he was fraud, why did I call back. I told him to get more information for my police report. The call was then disconnected.

- Jim SickingerA caller who spoke poor English said he was from the collection department of NIPSCO (our gas and electric company) and that unless I made immediate payment of a past due balance for service at our address (which was correct) my electric service was scheduled to be turned off within the next hour. I told him absolutely not, we always pay our bill on time and had never received any notification from NIPSCO of a past due balance. He said that this was my last chance to pay or it would be my lost to have my power turned off. He even offered the phone number of 844-468-9369 to call to confirm that the call was real. The number he gave me was the same number my caller ID said that he was calling from.
I hung up on him at that point and called NIPSCO at the number printed on my last bill. They assured me that there was no past due balance on my account and that the call was a scam that is going around. I don't understand why the authorities know about this particular scam but can't or won't do anything to shut it down!- Caller: Said that he was from NIPSCO
- Call type: Debt collector
