- DeeWhat did they say because I had a call from this number today.
- HughI received a mildly threatening call from them today, telling me that I needed to be ready for what was about to transpire, some kind of legal action was going to happen and I needed to call them as soon as possible.
- Caller: "Debt Consolidation Company"
- Dori| 7 repliesI had the same phone call today. I called back and the guy who answered did not say the name of the Company and used intimidation scare tactics to obtain my banking information over the over phone when I refused, he became very belligerent and when I told him the call was being recorded, he told me he was going to put a negative score on my credit and hung up. My opinion, this is a scam.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Alfalfa replies to Dori| 2 repliesTypical behavior of a rogue debt collector---demanding IMMEDIATE payment over the phone and making illegal threats.
How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

- Ramon USMC| 7 repliesSo I received a phone call 3 days ago asking for my wife, when I asked about what the reasons of there business was they immediately got upset and telling me they need to speak to her and it's a government and confidential issue only for her.... So I laughed and told them who I was and I also work for the government... They didn't want to hear anything except getting to my wife n to threaten her about a "Goverment issue" lol no company name no rights on the matter just kept threatening that she is going to be in a lot of trouble if she doesn't contact them back.... So as a loving husband would do I called them back blocked every minute to 3 minutes for about 4 hours then again the next day getting Daniel and Amanda very upset I would call blocked with no response just to get to them as I wore them down I called today about 63 times before I finally said "Are you ready to talk and answer questions for me Daniel" he was surprised and mad at the same time telling me what's my problem and do I not have anything better to do, as I laughed and asked if they didn't have anything better to do then steal Americans hard earned money, asked them for identification codes, licenses, tax id numbers ect he ended up hanging up so I called back again 15 times blocked still n they finally didn't allow blocked numbers to call 508-458-6804 there base line so I found the 844-486-3184 they send everyone too and began calling "Daniel" again he started saying I was harassing them and he has it documented and all phone calls are recorded and I told him good then you have proof of everyone you stole from and I will find them and have them locked up for a very long time.... I think they got scared because now as of 13:55 this afternoon both numbers have been disconnected and is no longer in service.... Ooohhhrraaahhh Semper Fi my brothers and sisters....

- lol replies to Ruth| 1 replyIf your mom is a bill collector then you should know to pay your bills!!
- John Doe replies to Ramon USMC| 3 repliesYou are funny.. typical military debtor you guys are all the same. Probably have a 585 credit score too. Kind of dumb for you to even talk like that about calling someone 63 times. I bet if I called your commanding officer one time you would be in a world of trouble. Think before you type [***] on here dumb [***]
- We'll pack your bags replies to John DoeThe man is a serviceman, and a victim of a well known scam. That would be foreign 3rd world criminals calling trying to extort money on fake debt. Once must marvel at the irony of you having the freedom and right to disrespect the very person who lets you enjoy rights & freedom. The leader of North Korea just executed one of his Generals for being critical of him. Would you like to live there?
- A replies to RuthGood morning Ruth-
I too received the same call this morning saying the same thing, I am glad I read this post as well. I am actually in the middle of trying to clean up my credit right now so this was really crazy to me.
