he call asking me to call back so using the number 1-844-488-3551 so I used the *67 and called back they kept calling me Karen and said that I was calling from Karen's number. They never told me what it was about, but they also called a neighbor who thought Karen still lived here . They said it was about a law suite and urgent. I have been told my Husband's ex is in California. But  the FAIR DEBIT ACT says that it is not  lawful to tell anyone what a calling is about if it is a bad debit.

There is no "Fair Debit Act" in the US. We have the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which prohibits the improper disclosure to non-debtors and the false threats of a lawsuit you've described.

You cannot block your number when calling an 800 toll free number, because they are paying for the call and are entitled to the information.

I just received a call from 844-488-3551 listing some kind of a file number and threatening that I "better call them back !!!"  I know enough not to pay attention to these annoying and ridiculous calls and I just deleted the message they left BUT they somehow found my brother's number and CALLED HIM saying that if I didn't call them back they would COME AND GET ME !!!! There is NO WAY I would have EVER listed my brother's name in regard to anything involving a money matter of any kind.I always list my name as my first name, maiden name and then married name and my maiden name isn't that common so I guess they googled my name and found him that way but that is totally HATEFUL !!! My brother is bi-polar and it doesn't take much to get him really upset and I RESENT THEM CALLING HIM !!!! HOW DARE THEY !!! Now he is all upset even thought I told him I looked up the number here on line and it one of those debt collection scam numbers !!!! I COULD JUST SPIT TACKS !!!!!

You remember that fury if you find an address for the creeps to accept process service. They've made idle threats, skiptraced your family members to terrorize you, and done more than merely ask others how to locate you. Since your own phone number was obviously known to the bullies, there was no need to go hassling "nearbys" except to apply pressure. All of that conduct is typical of the breed and violates the FDCPA.

Deleting the threat message wasn't too bright. That should have been copied and stowed away somehow. Direct evidence helps you to nail these crooks to the wall so they can't cower behind "bona fide error" defenses. Your state AG and the FTC might want to hear it, too.

I received a call saying I owe an loan for $300. They want it paid or legal actions will be taking. They said my bank confirmed this an want actions taking. They funny thing is I called my bank an they have no records of me owing them anything or being behind on anything.

I just got the same call saying I took a loan out for three hundred and never paid them and that I ethier pay 690 dollars today or they are filing a lawsuit for 2690 I'm glad I looked up the number I'm bi polar and I was shaking from how upset I was really threatening to come to my house and job my bank says they have no record of me owing any one

!!! I found out from BBB they were scammers and called back and let them know then all of a sudden the person who needed to speak with me wasn't there anymore.

I just received the exact same call from this group of jerks and they had all my personal and private information, including my old address and my SSN! They said I owed a payday loan of $300 and had to pay back $690 or go to court and owe $2690. I refused and said take me to court after I told him what a jerk he was and how rude he was being by not supplying me with information when I asked for the name of the company who gave me the loan, a number for them, the date the loan was given, etc. I am furious! This guy had me really upset and worried. I tried to call back after reading all this and they answered and immediately hung up on me.

They said the company was called Stark Recovery in California. I am livid.

i just received a call also from a Gloria Williams threatening me to call them back or they would come to my house or place of employment.
They would not supply me with any information regarding a so called loan I took out.

we just got a call for the same scam story, but it was for my brother who lives in another state.

Just got the same run around about a $300 loan and the same threats to settle out for $600 or so, If not legal action would take place for the sum of $2000 or so.

same scam story they are the worse and very rude. They calling my job, my home and family members. I wish i knew how to stop  these harassing phone calls.
