Told me I owed a debt and they would start going to my house and work to collect the debt

Tell them that you'll have Tea & Crumpets ready at 3:00 PM and if they're a minute late you'll be turning the dogs loose on them...
Seriously, tell them that you have familiarized yourself with the FDCPA ( go to FTC.gov) & that they now have 5 business days to MAIL you (NOT e-mail or fax.) a valid notice of validation. They'll balk & start to foam at the mouth, proving that they're scammers. End of story, case closed. They're FRAUDS!

844-514-5278 called my place of employment and spoke to my boss. My boss is great and said, she is on my time she will call you after she gets off work. Savannah Brown was who called looking for me. Very rude and demanding he said. I am sure it is a debt I owe and I am willing to pay it off but am worried and feeling a little intimidated to call back. My boss said she said they would continue to call my place of employment and home.

This debt collection "agency" called me to collect debt on a loan I supposedly took out in 2012, when I was 16. They also had my SS number. They were very demanding and wanted me to make a payment that day or else it would be escalated as a legal matter. This is more than likely a scam, I contacted my bank and they put my account on a freeze so they could look further into the issue. This company went under the alias "Stark Recovery", when they called me. Be sure not to give them any more information, even if they demand, a real debt collection agency has complex systems for handling collections, not just "give me your card info over the phone".

Received a phone call from a person claiming to be Esmeralda Ortega. Prior to calling me she had called my work and realities number. This person knew my personal information including social security number. She threatened me with a law suit for an unpaid debt for a pay Liam. She gave me two options and threatened that I had till the end of the day to pay or I would be subpoenad to court.

U fortunately I hesitated and did pay them. I quickly researched them and found out it was a scam and canceled the payment. Please do not make the same mistake I did. If anyone receives these calls please please contact the ftc and file a complaint and also call the better business bureau. We could stop these terrorist group of individuals if we take immediate action.

i got a miss call from this number about 10mins ago ... unsure of the number and where it's from, i didn't answer and straight away googled it ... thanks to google, after reading all the comments here will be more extra careful next time

Just received a call from "The Stark Recovery Agency". It has to be a scam. The issue is that they had my SS number, personal e-mail account and called my work phone. Now I fear identity theft. What can be done about this besides reporting them to the FTC?

Scammers called with my ssn. Said I owed a debt and said they had sent notices via email. I told them to mail the paperwork to my address and I would have my attorney contact them. She was a ghetto black lady with an attitude and told me not to get a tone with her and that if I didn't settle my debt today it would spike from $670 to $2700. I told her she was an idiot and it was a pretty lame scam she had going on. She then started getting irate and I called her a few explitives and she hung up. Contact debtartment of state and fbi to issue a complaint.

they called me yesterday.. told me i had a debt and to get a prepaid visa card and put money on it and she will call back to get the info... scard like hell.. not gonna do this!!  what do oyu know about this stark recovery?

They've been heard of before on this forum. Ignore them. They are fraudulent/bogus debt collection scum. See my above post.

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number.  Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

I have seen those letters and i never have gotten one yet from this so called debt collector.

You are very welcome.  If they failed to send that letter, that is a sure sign that they are not real debt collectors, but criminals trying to scare you into paying.

I got a call saying I had a defaulted payday loan of 300 and could settle it by paying 600 or would note my account to be taken to court I asked when was the loan taken out she told me back in 2014 so I called my bank my bank had no record of the traction that supposedly happens I told her that and she said then I will not your account and then I saw all these comment and was glad I didn't set up payments it sounded convening yet red flags they had all my personal information that would be on the application ss number phone email work and the woman so called name was Gloria Williams

Today I received a call like that you are worried because until I got my social security number. They dijieron me a loan and never received 300 and 600 must pay or else take me to court

anyone who has experienced these phone calls from stark recovery.. 844-514-5278.. please let me know.. i am expecting them to call again today and would like to see if anyone else has been harassed by them.. i already filed complaint with FTC and BBB.

You were also advised to file a report with your state AG, who many times have more resources available and are on the front line.  The BBB is a toothless organization with no law enforcement powers.
