- Glen| 1 replyI got a call from a "restricted number". They left a voice mail and said his name was Steven Burns w/ United Process Servers (I'm not even in California), he had some legal documents for me they were going to deliver at my home address. Said I needed to be there with two forms of ID to accept. If I'm not home they will come to my place of employment with a manager present as a witness.
They left a number to call 844-546-4261 which is Portfolio Recovery. I believe these are just their scare tactics and hope they don't show up at my work or scare my wife at home.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery
- Call type: Debt collector

- Alicia replies to John| 1 replyIs it a scam? I just got a call like this too.
- Slim replies to Alicia>> Is it a scam? <<
Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process. They will deliver the notification without warning.
(Here is more info than you really need on process serving:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_of_proce ... nited_States.29 )
Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam
"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."
"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court." - Tammy replies to TiYou should NEVER have paid. You just paid a scam company! Your files were sold to the scammer and they got money from you.
- Me too| 1 replyThey called me too. It is a scam. They have however given my private information to people in a different town who knew me and told me. So I may have a law suit against them except they go from number to number and business to business. They are illegally harassing people
- BevCalled me and left the same messages. Im so sick of scammers.

- LEE NICHOLSONSCAM! "Bryan Roberts" called my wife and left message with call back # (844) 546-4261 and a "case number". he referenced pending litigation in the message. When I called and gave the case number they said there was a check fraud allegation against my wife on an account in 2011 and they wanted to sort it out in "pre-litigation". PRE_LITIGATION! That's called business. Anyway - I am an officer of The Court in my capacity as a court appointed receiver for financial services firms...I have been sued, sued, served, been served etc. Once I informed him that there is no such thing as pre-litigation and that process servers would definitely not call to warn someone who is being sued before they show up he hung up the phone, and conceivably went to go try to trick someone who has not had as much experience with The Court. Guess what friends! Even if someone does threaten to sue you (for real) over something petty the best advice is to tell them to pound sand. Tell them you have done nothing and they will waste hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and will also end up paying yours when it is said & done and The Court sees that you have wasted the systems resources with something so frivolous. The process is expensive and takes forever. Don't let people pressure you into anything.

I didn't call them back, then they called my Brother n Law and my Son trying to get information from them. I have been served before they don't call you they just show up with the seponia at your work or home with no warning.

- Slim replies to Joey| 7 repliesUm ...
The company name most mentioned in this thread is "United Process Servers"
That is a one-star process serving organization in California.
They do not give out loans, shill.
Otherwise, tell us the real name, physical address and website of the company that "is not a scam".
Else we will classify you as merely a failed shill. - Gunnar replies to Slim| 6 repliesBroder,
Do you remember the good old days when the Shills were a bit of a challenge? It's getting to the point where I miss those days.
Alska,
Gunnar - Slim replies to Gunnar| 5 repliesYep
Hardly ever a challenge detecting one. A few clicks, and the proof appears on the monitor screen.
Their most frequent response (if they return to the thread) seems to be cut-n-paste "they are legal" responses made by sockpuppets, or merely calling the regulars names. Their most recent "innovation" is using registered IDs to argue with or vote down the correct advice. Maybe some group in NC or W NY is trying that, when the call center slugs are taking a break to relieve their constipation or ease their hemorrhoids in the "porcelain room". If so, I hope they wash their hands before using the keyboard!
