    I received a call from a Charles Clay from legal caring services saying he is coming to my house 24 to 48 hours to be available with two forms of identification or they were going to my job and summons me there.  He gave me a 844-766-8647 number to call regarding a missed court appearance. I don't have any knowledge of any legal issue

    Your caller is a fraud. Process servers don't call ahead of time. Ever! They don't ask for ID either. They also don't try to imply there was a missed appearance. They're paid to deliver legal documents. They don't warn you they're coming. They don't deliver messages. They don't leave phone numbers to call. Especially 844 numbers.
    Tell your caller to shove it! Tell him that he'll be ignored until documentation of his claims have been received by you via the US postal service. NOT e-mail or fax. As per federal regulation under the FDCPA.
    Let the joker rant & rave. Then tell him that you're having a hard time controlling your laughter. Tell him that you now understand why he's nothing but a minimum-wage scammer. He's a freakin' JOKE!
    Be Safe. Be Aware.

    Same as some of these other posts. Says he's with legal caring services & he has a summons & will show up to my work or home within 24 hours and something about having a security officer on site to sign off on legal documents. I have no idea what he is talking about.

    I just got a call also from Charles Clay with the same message. He never said who he was calling for. I called back the 844-766-8647 with the phone number that they called on and checked and asked me if the name she gave me lived and I told her no and she said that she would take my phone number off of her list.

    WOW! I got the same exact message yesterday! Didn't even say who it was for. I thought it was a scam right away, because who calls and tells you they need 2 forms of id and your getting summoned? I hope they do show up at my door! The police will be waiting for them!

    Just got a call from Charles Clay with the same message. But this is not the first time he has call.  He also call last year too and when I call the 844 828-7808 they said I owe a debt which I know I never had.  How do you stop them from calling?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
