- Perplexed| 1 replyHow can someone call your place of employment and mobile 8-10 times per day requesting payment or summons to be served, but will not identify company name, address.... and demand payment by credit card only???
- Call type: Debt collector
- Slim replies to PerplexedHow?
Easily.
Scammers do it all the time.
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:
* Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]
Source:

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.
IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/
If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - Confused| 1 replyI have called Federal Trade Commission, Attorney General office to report this number and constant harassment of a debt but they refuse to send any letter to validate it. They even ask for a credit card over phone only to pay it, but can not disclose their company name, or address to send mail? There is something definitely wrong with this picture. They even go as far as case number, claiming to serve papers, but can't say where you are calling from and from whom is this debt? Mr./Mrs 1-844-780-6735 your wicked schemes will come to naught. May you be caught in the same net & trap that you set for innocent consumers. Psalm 35

- IP-Freely replies to ConfusedMost of these fly-by-night operations call hundreds of people a day trying to find someone who will fall for their scam. All they need is one or two people to send them 1584.34 (or else I'm sending an officer to your home or place of employment) and that pays the wages of all the bottom feeders working in the boiler room. It's always the same case number and always the exact same amount of money owed to the exact same pay-day loan bank or IRS or what ever. Just ignore them...the only power they have over you is what you give them...and for most people, that power is fear.
- AngrySo, they called twice in a 15 minute span. The first time was with the actual number. The second time they covered the number and used the number of my uncle thinking that I would answer the phone, but I am actually at work, so I can not answer my cell phone. They have left the same threatening message on my voicemail twice now. I did not know that a debt collector would not validate your debt or that they were legally allowed to serve you at your workplace. Not to mention threat you with further action if you were not home at a certain time. Also, I searched my county records for the case number they gave me and can not find anything on it. So I am pretty sure this is a huge [***] scam. I will be reporting them and the next time they call me I will be losing my [***] on them.

- Steve KI got a voicemail from Michelle Morgan from this number saying that they were going to file papers in my county (my state does not have counties) and the case number was M10416. At the end of the call, she said I could consider myself "legally notified". Yeah, right. I was born at night, but not LAST NIGHT. I just ignore these calls and go online to see other posts regarding this number. When they call my work, though, it bothers me because the dispatcher has better things to do and I'm not there very much anyway. If I call these scammers back, I ask for a company name and a physical address. If I get that far in the conversation, they hang up on me. Best thing to do is ignore them!

- N H| 2 repliesRetrieved a voicemail from 877-373-9176. The message stated that an urgent legal matter had to be settled and that I, or my legal counsel needed to call 844-780-6735. I returned the call.... They told me I owed a debt from 2008, named some online pay-day loan company and tried to get me to agree to it. I said that I did not owe anything of that nature and to send me a copy of a signature document or what it was that they have on-hand. They refused. They told me that they will only send something when I agree to settle the debt. Who does that?! Yeah. Ok. I'll pay whatever you say... I think NOT!!! When I asked her to tell me the company, she sounded quite convincing... I'm Samantha Jones, a paralegal here; and our firm is Atlantic Mediation. Of course there is nothing when you google this company. She even gave a "file number" and a threat. Ok.... needless to say I went back and forth for a minute or two asking for something in writing to no avail. Then I ended the call. #unbothered

- TinaJust got off the phone with these people, What a joke! I called them back after leaving a message for my attorney or myself to call back to 1-844-780-6735. They are so convinicing but I told them I was not going to confirm any information until they provided me with some documentation. I learned along time ago not to confirm anything over the phone if I do not know who it is. I totally believe it to be a scam.
- Unknown replies to N HI have gotten the same phone call & voice mail messages for almost a week now! The phone number calling is a different number than the one you are supposed to call back with your "file number." And, you have to call immediately or they are seeking legal action, I have now gotten threatened calls/voicemails and took it to the police. I called back & the woman would not reveal the name of their company, claimed I had taken out a payday loan ONLINE back in 2008, then said there must've been somebody who was out to get me and used my social security number since this woman had more than just ALL FOUR! Sure I was scared but realized they are full of S**T! People get a real life & job!
- Barbara RolandThe number above came up on caller ID but caller stated to return call to 844-244-2102 stated I had a pending court fine and needed to satisfy the claim before he would send me any information in writing.

- K M replies to N HI received a call from 844-780-6735 stating I had a payday loan for $1000 deposited to an account in 2010 I no longer have, I've never taken s payday loan for that amount nor from the acct they claim it was deposited in. When I asked Samantha Jones to send me something in writing she claims I've been sent notices for the past 4
years and refused to send me anything in writing. She said I had 3 options to settle debt. I said refused any of her options so she said then we'll have to proceed in court. I said fine and she said see you in court! - M.B.They say I owe a payday loan company from some loan back in 2010, they even said I tried to get out of it by faking my death, they even left me a voicemail saying I should get legal counsel and call back, I don't do payday loans, and I am certain I didn't do one back then, and like everyone says , no company name or a letter in the mail, this is a scam, don't fall for it.

- ZaneThis number called my cell about 11 a.m. today. Did not leave a message. But I would not have answered it if I had seen the phone call when it came in because it had only the number, no other ID. Most of the comments on here result from situations that would not have occurred if they had simply declined to answer the call because it was unknown, or refused to return a caller's message. These are all scams. As several have noted, a real debt collector will send you written notice. Don't waste your time or breath talking to these criminals.
