I got a missed call and voicemail from this number. They mention some sort of legal documents and needing for the person to call back before they are "released". The person is very well spoken, it sounds like a very good scam. STEER CLEAR.

They seem pretty legit and have information about something specific that I did... Are you sure it's a scam?

Keep getting calls from a blocked number that give out this number to call.  I called one of them (I blocked my own number) and told them I was reporting them to the FTC and any other agency I could think of.  Am thinking of calling back and telling them that I'm an FBI agent.  Wish I could block the number they're calling from.  Am getting harrassed now by them.

Same as the others. Call from a blocked number with instructions to call back 844-805-9469. Said there were documents that would be released to the clerk's office unless I called them.

Received voicemail from anonymous caller to my Google Voice number. Instructions were to call back to this 844 number, regarding "documents being processed through the clerk's office" and a bogus "document filing number".

Pretty sure it's a collection scam; I've seen this movie before :)

The caller would not give any information except to say it involved my daughter in law and a lawyer named Ralph Lewis but gave no address or phone number  and to say it involved RCM litigation and acted like they thought I had been served some kind of legal papers.  My daughter in law does not know what it is all about or who is calling.  I have no idea what they want.
    • Caller: Only name given was Ralph Lewis

They call family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  Both you and your daughter in law need to read the following:

Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Did they mail you proof of your debt? Because if they didn't, then yes, it's a scam. A legitimate collector will send you a validation of debt via US Mail. A scammer will give all sorts of reasons why they can't or won't.

Sure seem like one form what I've read.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

Got a call from them today- I asked them to send me something to verify that they are a legitimate company- she was rude and refused to do so. She said they were suing me for $3000 unless I paid them $500 now. She said they tried to serve me multiple times (lie). I asked for a company website and she said they don't have one.

Phony debt scammers.  Horrible crooks.  See the posts above to get a start on how to get rid of these jerks.  You don't want to talk to these guys, they will threaten and harass you.  There is no debt, they only want to scare you into paying them for something you are not owed. Here is a link for you. https://800notes.com/arts/Jb8EW-eDhQA/harassi ... ou-need-to-know
Read the info at that link - Post back if you have any questions.  These guys are pretty good with scary threats, but you are NOT about to be arrested, there is NO warrant for your arrest, they can't send the cops or the courts after you.  Good you posted here!

Same call as the others asking for someone who has not been around this house for 15 years. Is a debt collection but not a legal one. Don't let them scare you into something.
