two men named Rick montarez and Sebastian Mendez claiming I better pay $3,999.32 for a debt my mother had back 15 years ago with HSBC Bank. These men were in Mexico, they continued to harass me and call me names, most of all laughed out loud how I was everything but my name. This is a scam! I call this number back and I get a busy signal. These men are criminals. They would not give me a agency number but they gave me a case #NV217479 I constantly asked for a supervisor and ID number and they refused.

Yesterday this agency called me (844) 808-8791 stating that I owed their client, HSBC $425.00 from 2007.  The claimed to be an attorneys office and said that they were going to serve me papers and sue me for over $2000 which was the $425 plus attorney fees.  They told me I could avoid all attorney fees and a lawsuit if I paid the $425 with a debit card over the phone today.  I told them I would be more than happy to pay the $425 once they verified that this debt was in fact mine.  I didnt recall owing HSBC anything from 2007.  They got very defensive with me and would not provide me any other information and told me they would see me in court.  Then today I got a call from someone else from the same agency but from a different number (909) 456-1895.  They told me the same thing...that they were an attorney from HSBC who was about to serve me papers to sue me.  This representative did give me a HSBC account number and phone number that pertained to this debt and I told them I was going to contact HSBC and see if this was valid.  I called HSBC fraud department and they had no debt under the account number given to me and confirmed that I was NOT tied to that account number at all.  They even check for any debt tied to my social security number.  Nothing came up.  HSBC reassured me this was a scam and to not accept anymore of their calls.

This number, (844) 808-8791, called my sister just now claiming to be looking for me to collect a debt. They new her middle name and home address and said they would be serving her papers if she didn't pay up. They gave her a case number to give to me and said they are with RC Associates. I called the number back and the voicemail said, "you have reached the corporate office. please leave a message." She said they were very rude and persistent. This is a total SCAM!!!

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:

The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.

The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.

The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.

The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.

Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
    The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.

Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
    Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
    Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.

Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.

Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).

I received a call from someone named Veronica who had an "unknown phone number". She was uncooperative with my receptionist - told the receptionist that she could not leave me a voice mail. She did not want to talk to me, she wanted my receptionist to give her our business address or my cell phone number. Because of her tone, my receptionist did not disclose either. She gave the caller the option to leave me a voice mail or to talk to me directly. Veronica did not want to talk to me, but when her options were either to talk to me or leave a message, she agreed to be transferred to my phone. Once she was on the phone with me she immediately insisted that I give her an address - like I would do that! I asked her why I would provide my address.  She said it was so she could have legal documents delivered, and by the way, I needed to make it a place where a signature would not be required. She said I should have received papers within the last 30 days and should be aware of why I was served.

I refused as I don't know of any reason anyone would be serving me papers.

She gave me this phone # 844.808.8791 to call and also gave me a case #. (She told me this was the number she calls, as if she were doing me some kind of favor?). I called the # and the call was identified as going to Leslie Johnson something or other (law firm? legal? Not sure). They are looking for someone by my same name but the last 4 of the SSN and the middle initial did not match. She said, "OK, if this isn't you, don't worry about it." I asked her if she would notify Veronica so that Veronica would no longer call me, and she assured me she would.

I'm sure this is some kind of collection firm, and I feel bad that people have to work at places like this. Fortunately I'm not the person they're looking for.

I also got a call like that. They called my daughters phone and left voicemail saying this call is for her name and that they had papers to deliver that needed my name signature and to call them back. So I called back and the voicemail said it was a call from corporate which really got me worried.

Prepare to worry if either are taking unknown phone calls, that's what many are hoping to do, so you'll pay a nonexistent debt. The less answers of any kind these crooks get, the more their worries will increase since they can't play without a participant. You block this number or don't answer at all, you'll be excluded from their list eventually.

    report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

    Most likely this group:

Long history on 800notes.  Sometimes they call themselves RCG.  Or RC Litigation or Richard Carlson Litigation  or   Richard Carlson Law Group and RCG Group.  RC and Associates  Sometimes Berks and Lewis Litigation.

This is NOT a law firm.  Simply debt collectors.

Best to ignore and block any calls received from the above CIDs.  I've called there numbers back several times.  They usually answer by saying "corporate offices"  and start demanding a file number.  If they are bothering you report them.  See my entry.

Watch out for someone who calls herself "Lovely Johnson".  Seriously strange lady.
