    Similar call received on June 4, 2014 referring to allegations and a case number of 140978 and concerning the Meyer (sp?) Group. Called the referenced number of 844-823-0318 and a recording said the number was not in use.
    Junk call, huh?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    •Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    it is a Collection Agency...
    ...or as they may refer to it, Meyers' is a "pre-litigation" firm.  Apparently if you are a deadbeat, or related to one with same last name, or, as in my case, not related but just happen to share last name, they are trying to "find" someone who owes a client money, by fishing around.

    What in the world?
    Got listened to a recording from Myers Group from a Maggie stating serious allegations and call back with case #xxxxxx.
    Wouldn't it be nice if the "people" that issue phone numbers also monitored the use of these numbers? We live in a world with no accountability or responsibility to anyone. I wish these people would put half as much effort into an honest living as they do scamming the rest of us. They actually may make a contribution to society instead of tearing at the seams.

    Received call from this number (918) 921-8757 stating Mr Brown w/ Myers Group about some payday loan. The first time I was contacted by them I was given number of 844-823-0318. He stated that I would be served with papers and arrested. I have been researching this number all morning long and everything I have read points to scam. He threatened me, tried to verify my work, SSN, etc. I kept telling him no and that I know it's a scam from researching and he cannot scare me into paying anything. He said "okay, good luck getting arrested". Whatever. I also checked out the 918# and this is what I found:

    I received the same type of phone call. They were asking for a person by the name of Enrique Vargas, and also stated of severe allegations regarding pension number 146###.The phone number they used to make this call was: 302-766-7098.
    This number is from Pennsylvania. The woman who left this message mumbled her voice when she said her name which makes it hard to understand on purpose. After investigating this phone number, it is from MEYERS COMPANY, a phony collection agency which uses any tactic to get what they think is their money. Apparently, they have pulled the same stunt on many people throughout the country. They will call everyone who currently lives in the same apartment or building where the person lived before. This person does not live here but yet use my home phone number to call me and call other peoples home phone number to pester other people even if they do not know the person. These are lazy ass people who want to make money off of other people especially if their credit score is descent. The same goes for the other phony collection agencies that are out there. I wish that their was a way to track them down instantly so they would be caught and punished. You know what I would do? If I could I would find out who every individual is and when they get home call their home number as well as their cell phone every single day and night several times a day non-stop just to see how they feel about it. HEY GOOF BALLS OUT THERE; GET REAL JOBS ESPECIALLY YOU NUTS AGED FROM 25 TO 48 YEARS OF AGE, AND HONESTLY EARN YOUR MONEY. It does not matter if you get paid by week or every two weeks, but do it honestly!!!! You CANNOT take your material possessions with you when you DIE, so don't dwell on these material things so much.

    Thank you all for posting your feedback.  You've all saved me a ton of heartache... and money.  Nowadays, you can find almost ANY company through Google.  Well, all that popped up when I typed "The Meyers Group" into my search engine were all these complaints, and I found NO signs whatsoever that this is a legitimate company.  I was worried, because I actually did owe money to the payday loan company, but in hindsight their means of finding information seemed kind of shady.  For some reason, they thought my address was in Philly when I've never lived there and have been living in Jersey for over two decades.

    These people should be arrested!  A couple days ago, I got a call from some friends of mine who i lived with for about three months.  They said they also received a call from this Mr. Brown guy!  I never gave out their home phone # to anybody!  I don't even know their home phone # off-hand, because I always call their cell #.  Obviously, this man's using some devilishly sneaky tactics to retrieve people's information.

    Plus, he was pretty rude and aggressive about obtaining the money.  I've been on the phone with (legitimate) debt collectors before.  Even if I hadn't paid the credit card company in two years, they're usually very nice and patient in organizing a payment plan.  Never did they ever threaten legal action.

    Besides, I just recently filed bankruptcy, so if this man has to collect any money from me, he'll have to talk to my lawyer.  All my unsecured debts are being discharged.
