I received multiple calls to both myself and family members from an unknown number regarding papers that were being delivered advising me to call back 844-878-5078.  As an aside, they mentioned my home address specifically in the message.  Upon calling them back and giving them a case number with very little personal identifiable information they gave out my wife's SSN.  Fortunately they were on a recorded line after being advised they they would be on a recorded line.  Calling an attorney now to see what we can do :).

Got a call from a woman claiming to be with local law enforcement notifying me that they were going to serve lawsuit papers to my home later in the afternoon. Asked if I was aware of the reason for legal paper service, I replied that I did not, because I have/had no reason to believe anyone was servicing me with a lawsuit or other legal notice for court appearance. The caller told me I needed to call 844-878-5078 and get the information so that they could send officers over with the papers.
I called the number and they refused to tell me who they were, or identify their company. They knew my name, address and SSN. I quickly realized this was a scam attempt to claim on a closed credit account (my credit report shows the account closed).  If someone can identify this company, I'd like to have their mailing address. Thanks

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.  They will deliver the notification without warning.

(Here is more info than you really need on process serving:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_of_proce ... nited_States.29 )

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
    http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam

"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."

"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."

    Definitions, if you need 'em:
    * A =summons= is an official notice of a lawsuit. It is given to the person being sued (the defendant).
    * A =subpoena= is a court order. It requires someone to come to court, go to a deposition, or give documents or evidence.
    * =Papers= is a word sometimes used by scammers, as a scare word.  Legal documents can be sent via Certified mail. A courier is not absolutely necessary, although  the Sheriff, Constable, or a Bonded Licensed Process Server might be used.  Such people will have appropriate ID.

My hubby's ex got a call from this same number of April 9, 2015...claiming they needed to serve papers to hubby.  Now obviously this is a scam.  Why?  A legit debt collector has access to databases (which we ordinary people don't).  If these guys were legit, they WOULD know how to get in touch with my hubby. :)

On April 8, 2015 I get a rude MSG on home phone from a Juliet asking for my ex husband.  I called back and got Audry and advise them we are divorced for 7 yrs. and he is in nursing home as a result of a stroke.  Somehow they had just enough information that it had me scrambling, upset and mad all once.  They must have hacked my credit report because they knew enough correct information but not everything.  I did have a card back in 2001 which was paid and closed.  They had me convinced he opened another one. Even gave me an account number for this card. which by the way had too many numbers.  However this bank is now closed and were bought out.  How convenient but at the time they are threatening wage attachment.  Now that I am calmed down this account never appeared on my credit report.  Be careful they are very convincing but today is a new day and I am smarter.  Shame on me I let them ruin my surprise birthday party.  BEWARE oh and one other thing.  If they were legimite they would have recorded the call and would have advised me so.

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

They called my father in law telling him to pass on a msg to me with a case number and I had less than an hour to reply. Luckily I googled this number and found this forum before freaking out.

They have been calling my mom and me trying to get a hold of me. They said they would be issuing me "court documents" and needed my address. It's a scam. No process server would call you looking for your address, they would already have it. Posing as a county clerk is illegal. If you receive a phone call from them tell them that the call is being recorded and you will be reporting it to law enforcement. That will make them hang up real quick.

I have received calls from this number (2) times.  Person leaving the message said, "They were calling about my house.  When I returned the call they're looking for a man and want to know if I know him.  They said, "That he is being served."  But they can't and won't tell me what this is about.
I'm not sure who these people are and what they're looking for.  I called the police and reported
the number.  They know where you live, cell number, etc.  They know way too much information!

Same number and when I called back asking them information about who they are, who they represent, Margo, the supposed supervisor, was rude and hung upon me. I called back and I think this is just a two person operation because I got one and was transfered back to the other. SCAM.

received a phone call from 702-359-2994 saying there was a civil case against me and to contact 844-878-4898.  was also provided with a case number.  contacted that number and they wanted to transfer me again and could provide not information.   This IS a scam.  There is no civil suit against me.  I never received any legal documents.  In the end they will ask you to pay them.   Under NO circumstances should you provide them with any information.

They called my mother at her place of work (my dad's first wife) looking for his current wife (#4). My mother told them that she had no connection with him and had not seen him in 10 years and they accused her of being my fathers current wife. They provided my mother with wife #4s precious address (they moved 3 years ago). Called Her work 4 times in 1 day and has been calling 3 times a week for about a month. They claim to be Rothwell and Associates.
