When I got the voicemail and figured it was a scam when they didn't say their company name. Double checked the number just in case.

caller called and could not spell the name of there company. He was laughing and was short not wanting to give out to much info. He gave a claim number and stated that he had court dates that he need to give to the person they were looking for, Has to be a scam. If the court was looking for this person they would contact that person by certified mail or have them served. " silly people "

Got a similar call from Dave Williams. Directed to my ex wife of 27 years ago, using her remarried name, about "a case that may be filled against her". "Time sensitive matter". I don't have caller ID so I don't know where the call originated but she was told to call 623-242-5009. Mumbled something about "notified" but it sounded more like he cut off early rather than my answering machine. If I google my name and go to the links, she comes up as related along with families of families twice removed. That's probably where they are sourcing the connection.

They said I had a debt from 5 five years ago supposedly with Wells Fargo and was being sued for $1500 but would settle for $400 and I could pay in installments. Pretty sure this is a scam. The information they had for me did not match up. Had a message left from a female who said her name was Audrey Santos and spoke on the phone with some dude who said his name was Don Smith.

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via Green Dot, MoneyGram, Western Union, prepaid gift card or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

I got the SAME person,  he made the typical threats.  Running his mouth as if he was a Big Boy. shouting, and bullying. Not gonna happen Pal. here is a NEW number they are using 844-275-1640.BTW They cannot threaten ANYBODY with jail, or pretend to be an Attorney,  Thats fraud. Check to see if the statue of limitations on the debt has expired. If it has,  they have no legal right to collect on it. Even if you go to court over it,  tell the Judge the SOL has lapsed. You may have to SHOW proof so Go online to see what your state has for time frames on those debts. They will try to collect from a dead person they are so desperate. Makes me sick , You can report them to the FTC and the Attorney General for violations of the fair debt collections. C. F. P. B. If they harass,  or make Threats,  or continue to do so. If they contact me again thats EXACTLY what I'm doing.  They're unethical collection attempts,  and High pressure tactics NEED TO BE STOPPED.
