I received a message from a woman named Courtney and she stated that there was a two part felony charge against me. She also stated that if I have a dog or dogs to chain them so the sheriffs department can arrest me. At this point I was wondering what the heck did I do, She also stated that the state and federal government have been notified. I called the number back and there was a recording by a woman named Lisa Dawson

Did you get anything in WRITING that was mailed through the post office?  That - or having a server come to you - are the only OFFICIAL forms of notification should there be a problem.

It is also ILLEGAL to threaten arrest.

They call themselves National Professional Process Servers,  basically a bogus name to scare people into thinking they are going to be served papers in some legal action or another.  Don't fall for it, these people are debt scammers.  No process server notifies you in advance you are going to be served.   She called herself Lisa Cummings.

Total scam.  Ignore them.  Basically the are debt scammers trying to scare you into paying them something.

If you have received a call stating:

    1. You have defrauded a financial institution
    2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
    3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
    5. You will receive a court summons
    6.  Authorities are coming to arrest you
    7.  Anything similar to above,
     a.   Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
     b.   Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are   filing a complaint with the  appropriate authorities
    * File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage     http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
    * File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency).    [abstracted from another site]

They continue to bother  you, tell them you are going to the police to make a complaint of extortion.

Nothing will happen.   They are just trying to scare you.  Don't fall for it.  Don't call them back.  Don't talk to them.  They are looking for people they think are vulnerable to a scam.

There are no charges against you.   You can check with your local law enforcement for that.  Debt collectors have no powers or arrest or any influence on the criminal justice system.  Again, they are trying to scare you.

The letter says on the pick up form that it's from the circuit court clerk by name in my county. This isn't the only threatening call I've gotten in the past few months.

See if you can find out the return address.  Then go down to that address and see if in fact there is a real court there.  If there is, check with the court clerk to see if your name is in the system and find out why.  Some of these debt scammers tend to pick on women because they are considered to be vulnerable for some reason.  Many debt scammers pick on women, single mothers, and the elderly.

Personally I think someone has put together a bogus letter made to look like some sort of official letter for the purpose of scaring you.  Sometimes they will make threats of arrest, or say there are warrants out for you and that sort of garbage.  More attempts to scare you.  Debt collectors have no power of arrest and have no influence on the criminal justice system or the administration of the courts. Warrants are not issued to debt collectors. You cannot be arrested for ordinary civil debt.

    Report them:

    See:  http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

It was a small claims court summons. I have no idea who the company is- the original debt. Any advice on what to do.

Call the court house (the one named on the summons) civil division   & verify that this letter is officially theirs.  When is your court date?  What is the name of the company mailing it?  Also look up that company on line.  The local Better Business Bureau should also have information on it.

Look up the number of that courthouse on line - do not always believe the one on the summons.  CWG40 & I have the same belief.

There's no court date. The company is Midland funding llc. There is a page for my answer to the summons.

I am looking at a summons I had served on someone.  It shows--
    1. My name
    2. Defendant's name
*********3. Location of courthouse, date & time of hearing*******
    4. What to do - defendant must appear.......etc.

I do not understand the "answer to the summons" page from the company.  Before doing anything, call the courthouse on Tuesday since Monday is a holiday.
