- Donna| 1 replyLeft message that had a summons for us would deliver in 24 hours and that we needed to call this number as they are the ones suing us. We do not believe we would be sued, but if there is ANY summons for us, don't they usually just deliver them. Anyway we did not call this number back.

- Elspeth replies to DonnaREAL process servers just show up, papers in hand. Your callers are scammers - they ask you to call that number so they can intimidate you into paying a bogus debt, debt that's already been paid, or even a debt that is owed - but not to the caller. Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to mail - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof they have the legal right to collect said debt. Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial contact with you is a violation of federal law, and you should not pay them. In other words, if they won't mail written, verifiable proof that you owe this money to them, then per the FDCPA, they can go pound sand.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law. - miah81| 1 replyGot a call from this number yesterday morning so i didnt answer it due to not knowing the number, so they left a message stating that i would b served a summons w/in 24 hrs and if i wasnt around.to receive the summons it would b considered a failure to appear court date smh. - LinztI just got a call from this loser....The worse thing you could do would be to call him back since this would verify your number. The gov't really needs to stop scums like this and file harassment charges. These people need to sit in a 4 by 4 cell for the rest of their lives. Getting real tired of scams like this but lucky I always google or other search to find if this is a reoccurring problem. They need to be STOPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was a law office I don't think that they would answer the phone with out giving the name of the law firm. - DidiLindsey Smith called me several times this morning. When I asked the name of her company, she stuttered and then said Western Acquisitions. I googled that name, company does not exist. She sounded very unprofessional and is not very good at her game yet. She must be new at scamming.

- NovemberI received a voicemail this morning from....guess who??? Mr. Charles Clay from legal services!!! He stated in the voicemail that I would be summons by hand within 24 hours either at my home (which I needed to present 2 forms of ID) or at work (which I would need to have a supervisor present or head of security present to also sign papers as a witness). He also gave me a number to call 8449527362. I contacted the number, a guy named William Palmer stated that I owed a couple of thousand from Providian bank. In order to not have legal action as far as wage garnishment I could pay 500.00 by the end of the week but only had 15 mins to call back with a decision. If I didnt decided to pay the 500.00 then by the time we go to court the cost would rise to over 2500.00. Whom ever this is, has personal information such as SSN# and current and previous addresses. I keep a very close eye on my credit report and NOTHING has been reported!! So, I decided to do some reseach and I search the number given and noticed several people have had this problem. I believe it is a scam!!! DO NOT send money to ANYONE unless you have proof that you owe!!!

- SmartI don't answer calls with numbers I don't recognize. I let the call go to voicemail and then I only check that when it is full. I got a call from this Mr. Charles Clay stating that he had a summons and that he would stop by my house within 24 hours or by my work. Same scenario as November's Post. Anyway, I'm so happy that just yesterday I pulled my credit report and found I'm doing great so why did this Charles "scumbag" call me?
These jerks need to be stopped. Ask to have everything mailed to you. I never pay anything over the phone unless it's the principle on my car loan. BE WISE PEOPLE and do your homework before giving anyone your hard earned money!!!!!- Caller: Legal Service
