My coworker got a call on 12/5/14 from 845-693-8744 claiming he was from the IRS and they had a warrant for her arrest.  The callback number was 206-866-5564

There is an IRS or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

I was called twice now from (845)-4454371 saying that they had sent the documents and if I did not do what they said, the sheriff would come in two days and take me away in handcuffs and hold me until my first court date.  He was a foreign-speaker and very persistent.  Unbelievable is all that I can say.  he insisted that the documents were sent to me and when I asked for a number at the IRS to verify this problem, he asked why would I contact the Internal Revenue Service when it is the IRS.  Hmmm......Seems fishy, eh?  Again, unbelievable.
