The "ELEC AUTHORITY" sounds pretty important! Wow!!! Maybe they are ready to make me an offer I can't refuse that will save me thousands on my very expensive electric bill. I think they are spammers though. They never leave a voice message. I ignore and report those calls.

These "electricity" people are BEYOND aggressive!  I block every number they call from, after I do NOT answer the phone.  Don't ever let one of their reps in your house.  They are snakes!

They called our home phone and I actually picked up because I thought it might be important. When I answered, they immediately hung up?!

They call almost every day and do not leave a message. If I do answer they hang up.

I was bored, so I decided to waste THEIR time today as they have wasted my time repeatedly by calling and waking me.  Since I work nights, I sleep during the day.  I pushed 0 as instructed to talk to one of their representatives, but, much to my disappointment, no one came on the line to try to scam me.  Oh well.   I was just going to keep them on the line asking stupid questions for as long as I could.  

Everyone seems to be on the Electric Discount bandwagon these days.  I am still getting 3-5 calls weekly from BOTS claiming I'm entitled to a discount of some sort.  I actually received one from a live person offering the same thing this past week and was quite shocked...of course he was equally shocked when I laced into him for calling a number listed with the national DO NOT CALL REGISTRY! Please know that these people have no right to call you if you are registered with the DNC Registry but they try anyway.  People erroneously believe they have the right to call because you are an electricity customer and they assume these people got your number from that source...don't you believe it.  Everyone who doesn't live in a Teepee has electric service so any list with phone numbers on it will do. BTW..press NOTHING!.

This board is simply a sounding board for people to vent and inform others of scam telemarketing calls they receive.  There is no authority associated with the 800notes site to stop these callers.  In order for people to collectively stop these type calls they must act together - and TAKE ACTION!  It doesn’t do any good to complain about a caller on this board unless you then take the next step and do something about it!  The caller ID number is usually a ‘Spoof Number” – A Fake!  Never, never, ever engage the caller or call back the number.  The false robocallers will then capture your number as a ‘live one’ and use it over and over and sell it to other scammers.  The same goes if it prompts you to ‘press a key’ to ‘opt out’  of their calling lists, or be transferred to someone, as this will only ‘log’ your number as a working one and make it ripe for future calls and to be sold to other scam companies as well.
The best option is simply to hang up, keep your own list of calling numbers with dates and times and report them to the FCC below.  There is space on their complaint form to list several calling dates and times of a repeat caller.
The DO NOT CALL list is worthless, they do not act on anything, just build a database of numbers.
In order to do something to help stop these type calls, everyone - EVERYONE needs to file an online complaint directly with the FCC.  If they receive enough complaints about a particular number - they will act on it.  Do it today and pass along the info:

I agree with everything Guitar said except that I think people should continue to post their experiences here. It's a good way to be in the know and protect yourself. And please people don't pick up numbers you don't know. If it's important or someone you actually should be speaking to they will leave a message. Every time you answer you confirm a working number, or at least one that gets answered. And never call back anything without researching first. Crooks are always going to be around so get vigilant or get taken, it's your choice.

BTW, they're just randomly dialing numbers. I don't even live in NY anymore, haven't for years. Still have a 914 number though.

I too do not live in NY any longer, but do have a NY area code on cell. all of you helped me....this was my first call....hopefully my last. didn't answer it and thanks to all of you, I won't in the future! communication among the 'used' is good for everyone! thanks! Called me twice. Didn't pick up. They didn't leave a message. Did a reverse check on the number. Other people on your site have received it, too. apparently telemarketers

Received a call from 845-765-4880 on my mobile phone on 3/24/2014 at 7:50pm EDT. No caller ID displayed. Did not answer and an automated message was left.

The automated robocall message described the typical "Electric Service" discount scam that has become common these days.

I have added the number to my Google Voice block list.
