Received electronic message left on my cell phone stating they were calling from FMS and it was an attempt to collect a debt. Could not locate any information on FMS as a collection agency.
You can also send them a cease and desist via fax! It is also legal as long as you keep the fax transmission receipt. These knuckleheads are trying to come after me for a time barred debt (2002). Texas statute of limitations is 4 years after the date of last activity of the original creditor. Don't let the colleciton agencies tell you otherwise.
So I just got a call from these people. The lady on the line asked if I was home and I said "speaking". Well then she asked me to tell her my last 4 of my SSN to validate who I was. I said I would not because I didn't know who she was from a hill of beans. She then said that she'd tell me the last 4 if I just validated with a simple 'yes' or 'no' and I said I still would not because I didn't know who she was or where she was from. She said she couldn't tell me until I validated.
She said she "received a file with my name and SSN" and had to discuss something with me. I said I wouldn't know why she'd have a file on me and once again asked for what company she was with and what her intentions were. She then said that if I wouldn't cooperate then the conversation was over and hung up on me.
I know that I don't owe ANY outstanding debts that would be in collections at all (I've paid everything on time and in full for over 8 years but back in 2000 I was in a car accident where this might stem from).
Needless to say these people are shams and just trying to buy old, expired debt (that even federal regulations violate) and trying to re-age it and scare people into paying unvalid claims.
SLIME, GRIFTERS, SCAMMERS, CHEATERS, etc! I can't say enough about how I hope people are not falling for their schemes.
Yes it is a collection agency. Full name is FMS Investment Corp. Address is 1000 E Woodfield Rd, Ste 102, Schaumberg IL 60173. Send cease and desist letter by certified mail and include demand for proof of debt. See budhibbs.com for sample letter. You can find addresses for most CAs by going to your state's Atty General or Collection Agency Board website and searching their list of active debt collectors in your state. If a CA is not listed as active in your state and is calling you then they are violating the law (state law maybe federal also). Find them by searching other states AG websites particularly in the state they are located in. NEVER talk to these jerks except in writing and NEVER admit anything until they prove in writing that this is a legit debt that you owe that is not too old to be beyond the statute of limitations (varies by state usually 4 to 10 years). Also check your credit reports as they cannot put anything on there if it has been more than 7 years. Violaters of collection and credit reporting law can be sued for $1000 per violation.
My father-in-law just showed me a letter from them claiming he owed Verizon North that he has not paid and they are collecting for Pallisades Collection LLC. He has no bills from Verizon that are past due or late.
live in NH...rec'd a call from them this am asking for a person known to me, but not at my number or address. Waited to speak with someone, but no one came on line...auto message only stating if this is not XXXXXXX please disconnect now. I assumed it was a collection agency and this is not the first time they have called. Tried to locate another number to call them back and put a stop to these calls.
Have been receiving calls from this number frequently for somebody's name that I think used to live at my address. Have no idea who this person is. How can I stop these calls?
Received a call from this # (847) 330-5522 Message left delete if you are not this person or stay on the line if you are this person. Don't know who are this person.
got a call from 847-330-5520 ,FMS Invest Corp which show up on ID, have beeen getting calls from them every 2 days, asking for a person that I don't know. I call them back, told them any more calls and they would hear from my lawyer. I've had the same phone # for 34 years.
I have been getting calls from this number for the past six months for someone that I have never heard of. It is always an automated system, never a real person, but you can tell it is a collection related call by what the message says (I work in collections, I know what terminology they use). I have had this phone # for three years, but I suppose if I owed someone money and didn't want to deal with it, I would "accidently" flip a couple of numbers around in my phone number too.
