this number can be scam

I received a call from this same number. 850-910-8076.  The man said his name was James Williams and he was calling from the Federal Trade Commission.  He said there has been a complaint filed against me because I took out a payday loan and didn't repay it.  I never took out any payday loan. I asked the man to e-mail me or fax me the legal paperwork he had regarding this and he said it will take some time to get it together. This call is a scam.  I got a similar call from a different number 2 days ago and when I told them I know it was a scam they hung up on me.  I reported the original call from the other day to the BBB and the FBI and now I will report this one as well.

I just received a call from this same person, claiming the same.

I have received multiple calls from this #, to the point of blocking the number on my cellphone. Some how they also have my work #. I work in a mental health center and don't have time or patience to receive calls from them. Yesterday I called back to let them know to stop calling and the man with a foreign accent said he was James Williams with Federal Trade Commission and I needed to have my attorney present. I told him don't ever call my job or cellphone. Ever again and he became disrespectful. After I responded the way I did, hopefullythey will leave  me alone.

This number called me threatening to take me to jail for payday loans.

Same thing happened to me.

I got this phone call at my office (which I don't give out to anybody), about being late on payday loans (which I don't have), caller says his name is Officer Jay Dawson with the FTC (which I doubt with a number that originates in Pensacola, FL).  Don't give this guy the time of day, it's obviously some Florida backwater scam artists.

I got a call from this same number, but the officer's name was a Mark Walker.  When I googled him, it says he was arrested and currently in Jail.  They too were calling about payday loans which I have taken out in the past, but I only use ones I know are reputable.  Common theme with these scammers are they use common names which make it hard to trace their identity, James Williams, Mark Walker, etc.  I seriously doubt the FTC would be calling us directly and if so, that you would think they would do their communications in writing.

I got the same call as everyone else about a payday loan and if I didn't pay I would go to jail.. His name was Mark Walker

I just received a call from this number from a Office Jake Dawson and said they have 3 cases out on me for payday loans and if I do not call back today that I would be going to jail.

I too got a call saying he was Officer Mark Walker with the FTC saying I had 3 allegations out against me and if me or my attorney didn't call him back there would be serious consequences.

I will be filing a report with the FTC and the law firm I work for will be filing a complaint against him and his company for falsely identifying himself and harassment from a debt collector.

This is a scam.  It was some guy saying he was from the FTC and I alerted him that I knew who they were and not to call my cell or work line again. He begins to call me again and says that he wants to have sex with me? I was like you need to get a life and stop playing on the phone before I curse you out.  He no longer called back but I will be reporting this number and incident.

This yahoo said I needed a psycologist and that I was a " bloody [***] motger [***]." I told him that I was pretty certain that federak employees are ristricted from talking that way.  Why did all these people have pakistani accents but names like
Jack gates badge # 2324869 and jake dawson? (The two that I spoke with)

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

This guy keeps calling me and asking if I want to refinance my house.  He only calls my work phone cell so I know he doesn't have my personal information.  But when I told him he had the wrong number, he asked what my name was.  I told him I wasn't going to give that information out, and that I didn't want him to call me anymore.  He then asks me if I am sucking President Obama's dick.  He had a middle eastern accent.

my girlfriend just recieved a call from same number but it was officer john walker and earlier notes above same last name different first name wouldnt give out any info bout the loan but threatened her with jail if she didnt pay 385.00 tonite seriously its a bunch of bs where we are there are no payday loans which makes it impossible to owe for one its a scam ppl

they called threatening jail time and thousands of dollars to repay for a 385.00 loan we never took out they said it was the ftc never confirmed any thing except name

You need to file a real complaint .. the FTC probably won't like these guy's using their identity to play extortion scam! :)

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.
